Unfortunately, it is new and its only available in Australia and still ... new ...

"PEDIATRICIANS at a Sydney hospital have developed a world-first non-invasive test for inflammatory bowel disease ..."

They've developed a test which measures a protein called S100A12 in faeces and can indicate whether a patient needs to have further invasive tests or not.

Just like those docs down under to find a better way. Wish I could hop a kangaroo on down there. I darn sure am not going to fly..

Am I right in thinking that it only spares kiddies the first, diagnostic colonoscopy, and that regular scopes will be needed from then on to monitor the progress of the disease? It'd be nice if they could devise a way to spare us from all those extra c'scopies too.

Does it detect all forms of Crohn's?  UC and/or inflammation in ileum and/or in small intestine?  Do those all have the same markers, anyway?

I'd be willing to bet its not as reliable as a scope. That being said, I'm equally certain that its only a matter of time before it is. Also, Virtual Colonoscopies have been making great strides. I'm sure the combination of the two would work wonders.
