I think I really need a new GI; recommendation?

I'm in NY/CT area.  My doctor knows nothing about diet, is not up on research literature, knows nothing about new tests.  I'm so jealous when I read about your docs.  (sounds like Boston is the place to move to!)  you can pm me, I guess this board has that option?  thanks!

Don't live there and would not have any recommendations, but a good rule is if you know a hospital nurse, or someone who does, they usually know whose patiemts do well and who they would feel most comfortable with if they needed a specialist.

I would suggest Dr. Steinlauf. He actually was working underneath Dr. Present who I believe actually worked with Dr. who discovered Crohn's disease. I believe he's associated with Mount Sinai Hospital. I had my surgery in NY and was overseen by Dr. Present and Steinlauf. I would really recommend them though. Good luck!

I see Dr Ullman in MT Sinai hospital. Great Dr and good guy, would definetly recommend him.
Mt Sinai has several top G.I Dr if your willing to travel to Manhattan. Its 5 -- 98th street, 11th floor. between Madison and 5th ave. Phone for appointment : (212) 241-4299

Hmm....I would give Mt. Sinai another try.  Dr. Ullman really is great.  He is everything you are looking for (up on the latest,etc)

I go to office of Drs. Katz, Tepper and Fung Liu in Great Neck, NY. They have a clinical research facility on site and are up to date and the latest research, tests, treatments, etc. I was referred to them by one of the co-founders of CCFA.

Thank you everyone!  I finally got through to Dr. Ullman's office but no appts till Sept!  I also saw the Great Neck site,  and emailed them.  Thanks and have a nice weekend!

That is prob the only negative, Dr Ullman and the other DR there are busy. It is still well worth it. When I have my appt, on my way out I make a new appt. I see him every 2 to 3 months.
