I am going for my first surgery on July 21st to have my appendix and part or all of my ceceum removed. I will be in the hospital for a few days and i was wondering if any of you surgery vetrans (lol) can recommend bringing anything that I might have forgotten about or that you had wished you broght with you. Thanks

I really don't know didn't forget anything and every hospital is different. Though I want to wish you the very best with your surgery.

A few of the vets here recommended taking my own pillowcase and pillow. This was so nice to have, I found I needed a few extras to prop yourself up here and there to make you more comfortable. I also brought my own bath soap, pajamas some with pants and some nighties for the first few nights until your catherer is out, can't have pj bottoms with the catherer tube hanging down your leg. Anything that feels like home and smells like home helps! I also brought my son's portable dvd player, headphones and some movies....that was great.

I really wish you well for your surgery. Will be thinking of you.

Well I didn't have surgery, and was rushed by ambulance (GI bleed). So I didn't get a chance to bring anything with me. I think the portable DVD player would have been awesome though! Especially at night when I couldn't sleep, and nothing was on TV. Having some magazines would have been nice too, come to think of it! And my pillow? Man I toughed it out, that would have been great!

Anyway, just wanted to wish you all the best of luck with your surgery! And a quick recovery!

Best of luck on your surgery!!! Iv'e had two csections,and I'm a nurse,so I would suggest to bring "comfty" things...favorite pillow,blanket,books,magazines,note cards,puzzle books.My personal favorite is my fan, I CAN NOT sleep without it!!! O'kay,ready to laugh?? I was the nurse for a lady who had a hysterectomy the day prior,I bend down to listen to her lungs,and her full size doberman popped out from underneath the covers,scared me to death!! I screamed so loud,all the nurses that I work with came running,I was the joke of the day. The lady "snuck in" her dog,good thing I'm a pet lover. HaHa!!! tongue

Good Luck on the surgery! I would bring something to read and listen to and some of your own PJ's. When I had my kids I was so uncomfortable in the hospital bed, a pillow or two would have been nice

A walkman, iPod or similar. Apart from anything else, it blocks out noise and stops your room-mates from talking to you when you really want to be left in peace.

A notepad and pen for jotting down questions for doctors / nurses.

All really good suggestions, how about a small pack of tissues and TP. Hospital issue is too rough. Comfy warm socks, hard candy. I always sneak my cell phone and charger in, but don't tell the nurses!
