  sad I get Urinary Tract Infections and Kidney Infections ALL THE TIME and I am starting to wonder if they could be connected to Crohns Disease? Ever since I've been diagnosed with Crohns Disease (June 2007) I have been getting them. Medical professionals keep giving me the speech about washing and cleaning properly, wiping properly, urinate before and after intercourse, etc. I am one of those people who is VERY careful about keeping everything clean but no matter what I do, I keep getting them. Has anyone else ever experienced reoccuring UTIs or Kidney Infections because of Crohns Disease? If so, I'd like to know how you finally were diagnosed and how you were treated. I am finally going to see a urologist because I'm sick and tired of this nonsense. Not only is it depressing and frustrating, but I can't go out anywhere, I have to cancel plans, etc. HELP!

I really can't answer your question but my daughter has gotten really bad kidney infections. Landed in the hospital a couple of times with fevers over 104. I always thought there was a connection between her Crohn's and the kidney infections but no doctor has seemed to connect the dots. She is in denial about her Crohn's mainly because she doesn't have health insurance yet but also because she rebelled as soon as she turned 18 and I could no longer control her health issues.

After what has happened to me the last couple of years I think she is finally seeing the light about what can happen when your disease is not treated.

Is it possible that you have a fistula to your bladder dumping feces into there. That is how I finally found out I had Crohn's and not just IBS. When I started passing air when I urinated. I had never had a UTI until then and haven't had one since.

Yes. CD have several adverse effects on your Urinary tract. My personal Crohn's devil is kidneystones, but I've also experienced Glommerulonephritis ( say it 3 times fast! No, it doesn't get any easier-this one landed me in surgery!) and Interstitial Cystitis. I think you may be expierencing this one. There are also other UT complications..

I get frequent UTI's when I am on Entocort. The same thing happened when I was on prednesone. My GI and my Primary care doctor tell me that Entocort works mainly in the gut, and that it is not the cause of the UTI's. I also went to a urologist and he found nothing wrong. I'm the only one who feels pretty sure the Entocort (which is an immune suppresant) allows the bacteria to thrive in my bladder.
I purchased a home UTI Test - it helps to catch and treat them early.
Hope you get some help with this--these infections can be painful.
