Does anyone have experience with the IUD Mirena? I am supposed to go in 2 weeks to have it inserted and just curious if anyone knows if it will make my crohns worse? I have spoke to a couple friends and they got yeast infections because of increased bacteria.

Any input would be helpful. My doctor and nurse are on vacation for a week so I can't call them.

Oddly enough, I was talking to a guy today and his wife as well as a friend of theirs both took Mirena for a while. He said his wife became completely psycho and so did their friend. Weird, huh?

I had one for a while (13mo) I was not officially dx with crohn's at that point so I can't comment on that part.  I did fine emotioanlly, however I bled for 6mo then began spotting every 2wks for the last few months.  SO I decided it wasn't for me.

I have never tried the mirena but justjenjen if they were psycho it might have been to high of a dose for their bodies.. i know when i tried seasonique my husband called me "psyco". once i got back on lo dose i was fine again. Some people just cant handle certain ones.. I do now that they seasonique helped with the cramping but the anxiety and constant jumps were not fun..

I have tried the coil, as a matter of fact I have had this one in for almost 3 years now.  My periods really aggrivated my crohn's so it was recommended for me.  Of course at the time they didn't know I had crohns they thought it was endometriosis.  However, I must say I LOVE IT.  I don't have periods, don't ovulate and don't have mood swings.  I do know however, that not everyone gets on with it.  I bled for about 2 wks after it was in and not since.  I would be so worried if it had to come out, but I have another 2 years to go!  I say try it, and if it doesn't work for you then take it out.   It isn't for everyone, a girlfriend of mine had one and bled for 6 wks solid!  She then stopped bleeding and has been fine since, but we are all different.

hi my friend has had the mirena coil for a year and she loves it, like the other poster she bled for the first two weeks then nothing. I think i will be trying it at some point too. good luck

All I can say is I'm jealous of those of you with friends that only bled for 6 WEEKS or 2 WEES.  I was a *lucky one and got it for 6 months. 

After posting earlier, a friend called and told me her mirena just fell out.  She has only had it for about 3 wks!  She's taking it as a sign it isn't for her.  Her body expelled it and the bleeding stopped afterwards! 

I have been thinking though....  I started a BCP (the mini one) becasue my doc said it would help with my endo.  I had pain (similar to the painI'm having now) until I stopped taking it.  So for me I KNOW my body doesn't like the hormones.  rolleyes    I'm doing NFP, right now, but that is how I got #5.  smilewinkgrin

Thanks everyone for your response!!!

After reading a few things on the internet I went into my normal anal panic mode and called my OB with tons of questions! But in the end it sounds like it is the right choice for me as I do not want to be pregnant anytime soon (4 under 4 is all I can handle at this point!) but do not want the permenancy of a vasectomy. I am still nervous as with any new medication and all their side effects but like you said, yellowroseoftexas, I can have it removed right away if I need too.

I will let you know how it goes! I have never been on birth control before so it is all so new to me! But hey I have survived the billion pills of crohns so who knows? maybe it will all be ok!

Vasectomies can be reversed.

I know they can be reversed but the doctors in our area require you to attend a family planning class and will not perform the surgery if you are unsure if you want more children. Our twins are only 9 months and although we do not want another child this soon we are not sure that we wouldn't want another baby in the future. We actually decided during the pregnancy that we would wait until the twins were at least 2 years old before we make our final decision of having another baby. So a vasectomy is really not an option for us at this time.
