well guys and girls ive lost my first tooth to crohns, dam thing was completly rotten really grossed me out,so now i have to have special tooth paste and some kind of mousse stuff to put on my teeth.oh well just another thing to add to this wnderful disease.thou i have complete my iron infusions so hopefully i acn get a job soon :)

Eva, I am so sorry to hear that!  Is it the Crohn's or the medications or maybe both that caused the tooth decay?

I hope you feel much better soon and are able to get a job!

Eva that really sucks!  To be so young, those darn things only just broke through.  wink

I have problems with my teeth too, i don't think it is just the two of us???

I won't lie to you, my teeth were a problem before I got CD, but since.....they are WAY worse.  I am constantly getting more cavaties, regardless of brushing, flossing habits.  I use flouride mouth wash, flouride toothpaste and get treatments from the dentist regularly.  It has slowed the onslought, and I am so glad I have a good dentist!!  (not to mention the NHS, I don't not know how I would cope with this in America.  I wouldn't have insurance to cover it because I changed jobs to much it would soon be a 'pre-existing condition').

It was my genaral belief that CD had an adverse effect on the teeth.  Is this the case with anyone else??  I would love to know.

Yes Amy the vomit can cause teeth to be worse, but I have been doing better since I got those sonicare toothbrushes.

i kinda think its just to do with the fact we have crohns,my teeth have been pretty good xcluding 2 hypoplastic teeth,i pretty much think im just bung lol oh well other than my crohns is nearly under contol xcluding the pains i just had which were weird....

hi i just had all my teeth out bar 5,due to crohns and medication i am glad they are out they were so decayed from steriods pred, that is iam only 34 so it just shows you how this medication affects you imagain what its doing to our bones. skull

Funny to read this

I have had CONSTANT problems with my teeth. Bridges, caps, root canals, regardless of the amount of brushing flossing etc. I thought it was just me.

My crazy mother in law says its because of being on so much medication since I was 13 (over twenty years now) and maybe shes right. I was on steroids for so long so maybe that had something to do with it.

I would like to see some type of test done on it.

I was told that we crohnies have more acid in our mouths which rots our teeth more. Last time I went to dentist, I had 5 cavities!!!!

I've never had 5 at once before. I was quite upset because I brush at least twice a day with a power toothbrush that guarantees a better dental visit.

WOW I never thought my bad teeth were due to my CD. Interesting. Glad this topic came up. I have horrible theeth too...In fact I need
to get another root canal. I have been putting it off but just told my husband today that I have to call tomorrow and get in because its really starting to bother me. I also have an implant I got done several years ago, along with a few other root canals and just about every tooth in my mouth has a cavity. I also chalked up having bad teeth due to my parents as they had horrible teeth growing up and both got them pulled out very young.

Wow, I am new to this forum, but have been validated about tooth decay related to crohn's and meds. I have lost a lot of teeth and wear partials. I also have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and early stage osteoporosis. I have had crohn's since I was five years old but not properly diagnosed until 1996. I am now 55 years old. I have been in and out of emergency rooms and hospitals all of my life. Luckily, when I feel better it may be couple months before a flare. Unfortunately, this year since January, I have been in ER twice, hospitalized once, and gone to my clinic's urgent care six times, twice this month. Thus far have not had blockage but doctor says good chance in my future. Feeling discouraged but trying to hang in there. I take Prilosec, Prednisone (now only when needed), Pentassa, Sumvistatan, Lisinopril, Reglan, and vitamins.

it's unfair,we get all this stuff to deal with and we also have to brush our teeth like crazy or we will loose them all :(
