You are welcome to join many former New Orleans residents still here after Katrina. We are hoping to aquire many Hornets through the NBA trade system.LOL. We would have kept them if we could, but as a whole, we try to keep our word in OKC,and they were only on loan. Many of the players told us they would love to stay too. As for the Tornados, they are little problem, as National weather service and others give us plenty of warning. Sadly many of the people we lost in 1999, we lost due to lack of mobility. My husband has limited movement, and is obease due to metabolic disorders, so I fear for him. It's a wonderful thing to see neighbors opening their shelters for one another, and with a little planing we are actually very safe,as tornados are very predictable now.Oh yes, our city is very green, and not very crouded as we cover about 621 Sq. miles.The cost of living here is great, we are still building. They call ours a FROG economy.Food, Real Estate, Gas and Oil. I guess things we can't do without in America.
I can't say they are always on top here in health care, however with Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation sometimes we are ahead of the game. With a good chunk of T.Boone Pickens billions being filtered into OSU I'm somehow certain the Bedlam seen on the Football field, will soon translate into the med schools and OSU Medical will compete with OU as a state of the art center. Hopefully no one else will have to endure 14yrs of unspecfied autoimmune disorder, prior you being diag. with Crohn's. Just kidding, my case was kinda drawn out due to my own genetics and stupidity.

   Good luck to you sniper... I would say move to the southeast, but if they have you moving then i guess Louisiana is not the best of places for you. We actually just got the suv loaded down as well. Hopefully this one won't be as bad as katrina. We lost just about everything and still trying to piece our lives back together. Well again hope where ever you end up is sunny and dry.

I am so sorry thatyou are having to go through such a big trial, you and your family with be in my prayers. As for a great place to move to, have you ever considered moving to Utah? I live it here, you can not beat the mountains, wildlife and weather. The winters can be heavy at times, but if you live along the Wasatch front, it is not too bad. The dry weather is great for your arthritis and the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah( GO BYU!!) is one of the best cancer institutes in the world. It is not at all like what you see portrayed on the news or television, but is actually one of the greatest places to raise a family. I live just north of Salt Lake City(home of the 2002 Winter Olympics) and I enjoy the suburban/ family neighborhood that I live in. The house and cost of living is very inexpensive and affordable. There is a reason why it is one of the fastest growing states. Sniper... may prayers are with you and Camille. I KNOW what it is like to go around the house and try to figure out what to bring. I had to scoot with my two baby girls because of an abusive huband( they can be just as deadly as a Level 5 Hurricane)... I remember walking around the house thinking.... how am I going to fit a life time into one little box and one suit case. It is heart breaking. For us, we were never able to go back ... but I will pray that your home stays safe and intact and that you are able to return to it safe and sound.
If you do move... I'd recommend Vancouver Island. THe winters are mild... the summers are beautiful ... the people are wonderful... and the health services if you are near Victoria are excellent. We have been here 12 years now...safe. The beauty around here was our saving Grace at times.

Actually we might all benifit from the integrative Medical care and warm dry weather in Arizona. I guess you could tell I love my Oklahoma, in spite of its faults- plus they are terrable at predicting earthquakes and hurricanes and I can't run fast enough to get away, can't walk well at all in the cold, so Az is the only other place I could escape to.LOL

Canada? Well, some of us southern types are a bit cold intolerant. I'm guessing that goes for James & his family even more than me ( I had an early childhood in Maryland back when winters were WINTERS so have a limited exposure to cold, snow, etc..). Anyway, old Gustav is supposedly going to be passing nearby here. And I wonder if Sniper is here in town?

the northeast isn't so bad if you live on the coast. i lived in portland, maine and really, winter was not that bad up there. same with providence, rhode island. the ocean air keeps the snow accumulations down. i would recommend a happy medium like north carolina or virginia, move inland some.

Anyone heard anything from Sniper?? Been thinking about him a great deal and hoping they are doing okay.

i spoke to him last night. he didn't think they would be allowed to return home today because of downed poles and trees and power outages. however he is in contact with a neighbor who stayed behind, and the bayou didn't flood, but they had wind damage to some trees. apparently their home is ok. i'm sure he will post as soon as he gets back home.

ok, here's the sales pitch for iowa. stinkin' hot and humid in the summer (100's with 90percent humidity) with a special spot in tornado alley, extreme cold (20 below 0) ice storms and 18'' blizzards with 50mph winds, and beautiful spring and autumn seasons spent indoors looking out through bloodshot eyes, and breathing through a bright red nose slathered with vaseline while hacking up loogies that tickle the back of your throat. but we have all the sweet corn you'd ever wanna eat.

don't forget that because of the massive flooding every few years everybody gets to live on waterfront property as well.  Just another plus for those living in Iowa.
