So I was at my GI yesterday and I am now scheduled for a colonoscopy and upper endo tomorrow AM.  The thing is that this will be my third colonoscopy this year....is that normal?  In part it makes sense because my first one they thought I had collagenous colitis and only took tissue samples from the areas where that disease causes issues and there was no inflammation to be seen.  The results came back as severe chronic inflammation so they went back and took more tissue samples from different areas, this time there was visible inflammation but no ulcers etc.  They results came back as unspecific chronic inflammation.  Blood work is positive for Crohn's and I have other symptoms such as mouth ulcers, fissures etc that point to Crohn's.  I finished my prednisone taper over two weeks ago and I have been in a horrible flare so they are thinking remicade now.  They want to go in and see what is going on since whatever it is has been very active lately.  But I can't beleive this will be my third this year.  I sure as heck hope they get what they are looking for this time!  This will be the first time this doc is doing an upper endo (but I had pillcam in march) so I am not as bothered by that part of it.  Thanks for reading my rant...time for some more lime j-e-l-l-o mmmm sad

I've had 4 in 19 months. I can't say if its normal or not, but you're not alone! The good thing is that I'm so used to it, I'm not nervous, I can give the nurse's whole talk about the procedure so they don't even bother anymore, I'm done with the paperwork in the amount of time it takes me to sign my name a few times! I don't mind the c-scopes anymore, and when someone tells me they won't get one done for a screening, I really lay into them! If I can go through it so much, anyone else can do it once every 10 years.

Thanks gachrons and kimberlayn. I don't really mind the test too much either I just really hate not being able to eat. I am really starting to dislike lemon and lime flavored products :) Too much of a good thing I guess.

I had a colonsocopy about 6 weeks ago. i took the tablet prep. I got so sick. My condolences go out to you. The actual procedure itself is nothing, but the prep is awful as I'm sure you know by now. Good luck to you!!

Had gastroscopy and sigmoidoscopy by my general physiciain last July and referred to GI who did my first colonoscopy ever a week later. They found a stricture in colon which looked cancerous. Put in hospital and CT Scan that same day and SBFT following day. Another sigmoidoscopy a week later before being released. (All biospsies negative). Put on Prednisone for one month, then another colonoscopy in August. Prednisone did not reduce inflammation so GI recommended surgery but was referred to specialist. He noticed something on the pathology report that he wanted to check, so another colonoscopy in February. Referred to colorectal surgeon who did sigmoidoscopy in May. Saw specialist last month and am starting Methotrexate next week. Was at the clinic today and another colonoscopy scheduled for December 23rd to see if methotrexate is working. If not, probably surgery. So if you count both ends, I have been scoped seven times in last year.

 Have got the prep pretty well down pat by now if that's possible!
