OT I need help desiding on Dentures or Partials

Well the remicade, other meds, diabetes, and other things have finnally taken their toll and most of my teeth or shot but I am not sure which way to go and would like to hear your opinions. Has anyone had both and which is better? Likes dislikes and anything else you can share. This is even more of a major deal for me as I have to pay out of pocket. I do not have any dential coverage.

Lower dentures are difficult to keep a good fit. Uppers aren't difficult at all to get a good fit. "They" say you get the best fit having all but the front 8 removed top and bottom. Let the gums heal, then have the top 8 removed and the denture IMMEDIATELY inserted. Take it out only to wash your mouth out w/warm salt water and put them back in (mouth hurts less or not at all w/them in, hurts like the devil w/them out during the healing.) KEEP your bottom front 8 or as many of them as possible as an anchor for the partial. That's what I did on advice from my dentist and have never regretted it or had a problem w/fit.

Once those teeth are gone they can never really be replaced so if you've got good ones left on the top I'd seriously consider going for a partial on the top too. They are even recommending now that if you don't have any lower teeth you can save, have at least one dental implant put in as an anchor for the bottom denture (which would then really be a partial).

So full denture for the top if necessary, but do all you can to save at least one (or hopefully more) bottom teeth as anchors for a partial.

good question as a think that decission will be in my future eventually. i have mostly crowns now and a couple of missing molars in the back. my teeth are crumbling faster than ever. even the crowns are going bad. they used to last me 10 years or so, now im lucky if they last 2. my teeth reabsorb under the crowns and disapear. not much left to attach things too. i have looked into implants though , im thinking thats the way i will go if i can.

My mom has implants on the bottom and she regrets it. She has to have them cleaned quite often, and when she cleans them herself it takes forever. Of course, she's 79. But if it were me I would go for the dentures.

Most of my teeth are caps and crowns and bridges. My mouth is more valuable than all of my earthly possessions put together. And I could still spend thousands to get them updated and replaced. I'm thinking when things get bad enough I will get dentures. I will sell all the current gold I have in my mouth to pay for the dentures....and be done with all the hassle of trying to keep everything up. Can't afford it anyway.
