Gross question - Pentasa

Hey guys, my doc recently put me on Pentasa, instead of Asacol.  I've been on it about a week (8 pills a day).  I've notice my stool is more formed now, so that's good...but I've also noticed that it's covered in little bead like things.  It's weird...and also kind of freaking me out!  Is it perhaps the Pentasa??  Those are pretty big capsuls and I haven't broken one open, but they are full of little "beads", you can hear them.  When I was on Asacol it was common for me to see those in my BM's...but those were whole, red pills and easily identifiable.  Has anyone had this happen?

I've been on Pentasa 6 pills a day for almost 2 months. I didn't start seeing the little beads until about 2-3 weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it's just from the meds and isn't anything to worry about. At least, I haven't worried about it :P

It seems to be helping me (and you too!) so far, much luck <3

I have been on pentasa for 8 months and yes I see the beads everytime I have a BM.  It is normal.  In fact, I think it is a good thing...it's doing its job! :-)  If you see full pentasa caplets, that is not a good thing, I do believe.  My GI asks me everytime I see him!

I took pentasa for the first pry 6 months I was diagnoised with CD I never seem to notice the beads but it is probably just from the meds. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It works great if you can afford it. My insurance quit paying for it :(

That is not a gross question and I almost asked it myself earlier!

I have also noticed the beads when I go. I have not broken open one of the capsules to see what they look like inside, but from what others have said, I bet that is what it is.

The beads are normal. They are in the medicine to activate at certain times and then need to be gotten rid of. Much better than your body storing them until something gets blocked..

yes, those beads are inside the capsules. ( They get stuck on my tag and bother my r-v fistula.) Nothing to worry about.

Whew! Thanks for all of your input! I feel much better now :)

My hubby says "why are you looking anyway?!?!" - I told him that's what crohnie's do! LOL!
