What about people who don't want to put on any weight. Can you do SCD without gaining weight? Also, someone mentioned cheese and whole milk... what about those that are lactose intollerant? Just curious. I'm really not that sick but my husband has IBS too and I just think it might benefit both of us to pick up more SCD ideas. Maybe Ill buy/borrow the book and read it over Christmas break. I'm mostly concerned about surviving lunch. I'd have to make things the night before to bring with me and I barely have time to make a sandwich now.
Yes, I worry about
when my son goes to college. It will definitely be more of a challenge to eat SCD compliant. He does know how to order protein and throw the bun away. If he sticks to that and doesn't add any junk back in his diet, maybe it'll all be good.
As for your question about
lactose, the SCD allows no liquid milk. That said, we all make our yogurt with milk (most of us use whole milk or half and half). When making yogurt the SCD "legal" way (24 hours of fermentation), the lactose is eaten up during fermentation. Also, the diet allows "hard" cheeses only. These cheeses, as I understand, are aged long enough that again, the lactose is gone.
My mom has IBS and I'm slowly getting her around to eating this way. She said the yogurt alone has made a HUGE difference for her!
Personally, I think it's easier to lose weight on this diet than others I've been on. You are removing all the bad carbs! Once those cravings are gone, it's a piece of cake! ....ooops... But if a person needs to gain weight it's easy too. My son did--he needed to. He just eats more frequently than the rest of us, taking in more calories over the day.
