Went to have a colonoscopy today, I was feeling AWFUL and had spent almost 48hrs asleep at home before it.
Usually it all goes well, get a light sedative and I watch the screen and the camera going through my guts, usually fascinated.

this time I cried out almost as soon as the scope was inserted, the pain was dreadful. I saw a kinda rush on the screen, the doc pulling it out and he reached over and put a shot in my canula.

I found myself back in the ward with a paper towel by my mouth.
He told me he 'couldnt get around' and might mean athesions or a twisted gut. He wasnt in good form.

He ordered a CAT scan which I had later that day.
I came home and he told me when he order the scan that he would be writing to me.

I told him that my ma did have colon cancer around my age. But somehting went wrong and I am very very anxious indeed.
Will I ring his secretary and find out if answers are back from the scan later today?

Ann you poor woman. You have had a bad day, but please do not be to worried as of yet. Wait for your results and see what they say from them./ I will keep you in my prayers.

Firstly thank you for your speedy encouragement. I went for a strong walk along a gailforce seafront with my two chihuahuas, even though I was in pain and legs weak but I had to go. Then I went to the recycling centre to dump my rubbish.

Why the Conan bit on your name, my mums maiden name was Conan and we are related to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, my brother a journalist calls himself conan kennedy.

Hi Ann, nice to see you keeping your spirits up. Stay that way and do not think about it to much. The conan part was put onto it as It also means Conor. I think it is roman or greek or something. According to the key ring that my wife bought for me. LOL... I am also from Ireland.

No I am ok today, I am going to try and do some work here.
I will ring the consultant later, or even ask my twin!!! talk about passing the buck.

Hi Ann, yes I am in Ireland. Born, bread and will die in our wee country. Good to hear that you are keeping your spirits up, once they go it hits the fan.

Awh let your twin call them, it is always best coming from someone that you kinow and trust.

HI I JUST NOTICED SOME OF YOU guys are from ireland; what doctors do you attend? How do you find their attitudes in general?

Roxette, I see two doctors. I see Mr Maxwell and Dr Johnston at the RVH in belfast. Outstanding gentlemen - and excellent doctors. All the time in the world for you.

My doctor is a good one, I think, although he let me out of the hospital with an infected wound which burst two days later, even though two junior doctors spotted it the night prior to leaving.

We have had many disagreements as he put a misdiagnosis of a kind I did not like, it took four years for him to correct it.
I think he tainted my character, but he is trying to make amends.
I don't like him but need him.
I REALLY don't like him. He is supposed to be one of the best.
I've yet to see it in his attitude toward me as a person.

Hi Ann,

When it comes to your docotr, it is always a battle. They are always right, their trainning shows that. However, you need to be honest with your doctor and tell him that you are needing more from him. Tell him that you need him to be more open with you, and tyo listen to what you are telling him, after all, you are the one going through this.

Regardless of anything else, you are the hurting person, and your doctor needs to acknowledge this and be willing to work with you. If he is not, then I would consider a change of doctors.

No, no results but I hope to get them today.

Conor, the doctors here have utterly destroyed my confidence in the breed.
I have been put through the wringer by four, all at the same hospital and have put in a formal complaint.
I was told I didnt have Parkinsons, I just wanted it, and that was after a DAT scan said it was 'indicative of the early stages of PD'
When I asked another for a nurse to be present, he threw a wobbler and stormed out of the ward refusing to have anything more to do with me and I walked out in my pyjamas into a taxi home.
This gastro said to me storming into the ward "you ring down again and I will have your phone removed" I who have hardly ever worked yet managed to keep up VHI insurance so that I could go semi-private, this little outburst was on a semi-private ward. All I did was ring a depart to say 'hello' to a kindly doc who saw me through my crohns surgery.
I was left five days in a bed, same hospital, different doctor, until I was psychiatrically assessed. The psych said there was absolutley nothing wrong with me mentally I knew what was happening my body.
It has just been a litany of struggle, bad behaviour of the doctors, I am still waiting for physio after I was told to have it in 05 and told in London recently that it was imperative as I have a muscle wasting disorder.
I am going to London St. thomas' hospital now for the other conditions like Lupus etc. because I simply had no doctor here.
Of the muscle wasting, the neuro said "dont know if its a fast one or a slow one, go home and we'll see how it develops' would you do that?
I wanted to know why I was losing my muscles.
I am now in a wheelchair, and the gastro said stress can put you there!
I was told that burning up and sweating was the menopause, but I am well over that, and I hear its a classic of Lupus.
I am sick of the rudeness of Irish consultants. the arrogance etc.
I am single, no family, no money, no power, now if I had a husband whom I could have told about the incident about removing the phone, I am sure my husband would have 'had serious words' and they would have been seriously noted.
But no, there is only me, who IS vulnerable, and sick and I cannot defend myself against the onslaught.
I hardly even take the meds seriously as I am so distrustful now and dont know what to believe or who to believe in.

Jesus Ann, you have been through the mills with these people. I really feel for you. No one should be spoke to like that. I would speak to VHI about the way that you where treated by these people. That is so shocking.

Moreover, that type of threat should be dealt with by the hospital, if not, I would speak to the medical board that they are under, and log an offical complaint against them with the board.

god Ann my heart goes out to you; you've had an awful time.
Im only recently diagnosed (after years going to an idiot gp who kept insisting my bowel problems were kidney infections!). My new gp is great and so far im getting on ok with my crohns doc - although ive yet to find the right medication cocktail to suit me.

Firstly roxette! Would love to meet up. I am not sure if my email is in my profile, we both might have to ask admin how we communicate.
NOW, the GOOD news is that I got the results, well my gastro is falling all over himself being amenable and had his secretary take my phone number home with her to ring me the results, Maybe he too afraid!
There is enough active crohns near the join of the surgery to cause my recent problems but there is nothing sinister going on in the rest of my internal organs and (they are still there!!!!) ha!
~No that will do me grand. I am to stay on the entocort 3times daily and if I have not improved to get back to him in a week.
But I feel better today and even blitz the car! Gave it a great clean, who is gonna regret that tomorrow!
I am as happy as a bunny!
