ILEOCOLECTOMY/RESECTION

Thanks for the compliment Margie11. After waking up from surgery can you feel a difference in your gut and the incision right away?

Why won't my mind except this, I am so fustrated. Why does my mind keep telling me this is going to hurt like crap. I have to STOP being afraid of the pain, but my mind just keeps freakin out. I didn't want to take the colonoscopy but some how did what I had to do twice. One major thing is that I do't trust the doc yet, you know hpw sometimes when a doc speaks to you about something he comforts you with his voice, for some reason I have that with my gastro doc, but not with this surgeon. I mean everything seemed rushed when I went up there to see him. I waited for about an hour even though I know I was an hour ahead of schedule. I got called back and he talked to me about my gastro doc recommended me for surgery and he asked me a couple of questions, then he told my to do the dreaded for a male. Pull down your pants and underwear to your knees and cover your self with this paper cloth and I'll be right back. I was on the table then shaking like a withered leaf in the cold winters' breeze. He came back pushed on my belly everything soft except for that spot, plucked around the lining of the colon on my belly. The he told me to turn on my side, I was like why do I have to do this I already had a colonoscopy my anus is fine, then all I remember is that cold big scopy thing shoved up there, he quickly removed it because my legs got stiff as a board plus a groaned that said if you don't get that thing out of me, things are not going to be fine. Afterwards we went in the office and talked about five minutes and I guess I was so petrified that I really ddn't ask any questions I just sat and my dad did the talking, and before I knew it we were leaving. I REALLY WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER SIT DOWN WITH THE DOC, I have to gain my confidence in him and I don't think its quite there yet.

Stephen, sometimes surgeons don't have the best "bed-side" manner, but that doesn't mean that they aren't good at what they do. Most surgeons that I work with have a terrible bed-side manner, but they are terrific in the operating room. They don't talk to their patients often, because they are on the operating table asleep, lol! When is your surgery? Take some nice, deep breaths, and start some positive thinking. Isn't his surgery today, Gail? I sure hope we all got him calmed down enough to go forward with his surgery. I know he will feel so much better afterwards. Praying hard for you Stephen!!!

Having a major emotional breakdown, about twenty minutes ago I called my surgeons' nurse and expressed to her my nervousness about the surgery. She expressed to me that I was in the best of hands, and my surgeon who has done these surgeries has operated on plenty and none have come out with major complications. She said that since I am thin it will be easier on me and that everything will be okay. She said if they had to reschedule it would be on the 25th. Here comes the facts when I eat now it is a lot of pressure, I mean maybe a couple of bites and it feels like a balloon inside. That spot on that side is getting hard and it is really scarying me, I don't know if I should wait twenty more days or not, I mean I am still able to eat with no naseau and I keep everything down. The spot doesn't give me hardly any pain, but It feels so uncomfpratble my lower back on that side feels tightened and uncomfortable as well. I am definetly freaking out, I think evrything is telling me not to back out, I'm just so afraid of what's to come, are ya'll sure about the pain, I hope that pain pump works.

I am about to start prep now, my surgeons nurse said that it would be okay because my surgery isn't until 2:00 tomorrow. I'm just really nervous at this point, I am really afraid of what I am in store for, I really hope ya'll are telling the truth about the pain, because I don't want to be having a panic attack when I wake up, were ya'll abe to stay awake comfortably a few hours after surgery? Please just keep posting becuase its to late for me to back out now.

I wouldn't lie about surgery, espedially pain. The pain after my surgery wasn't bad at all. It was easily managed with the meds I was given. Yes it hurt especially when I first stood up. Again, it was not bad, I would say it was uncomfortable, not really painful. Plus, you are in the hospital, it's easier for them to manage your pain there, they happen to have a lot of drugs around.

I couldn't stay awake for long for most of the day I had my surgery. I kept drifting off to sleep. I'd blink and it would be 10 minutes later. If you have a wrist strap for your DS, wear it in case you fall asleep. You don't want to drop it.

Be careful when you leave the hospital. That's when you move around more and can end up in pain IF you overdo it.

(Now, the pain from my hernia repair was a different story! The head of nursing from the hospital ended up having to apologize to me for that experience. Outpatient surgery stinks.)

Stephen, take some nice, deep breaths. The way you are feeling is completely normal. No one wants to have surgery. However, think about how much better you are going to be feeling after the surgery is done! Keep the faith. Blessings, Julie

Just think, in a year or so you will be feeling so much stronger, and who knows by then you may look like a U.S. Marine! Did you get a chance to vote yesterday? Wow, what an election cycle this has been. If there is someone you can trust to visit the forum ( an aunt, or someone) have them post an update for us. Otherwise, we will hear from you when you are feeling better. I feel good about this, and look forward to hearing good news from you. Oh, I don't think you could ever go faster than your guardian angel can fly! LOL
