Entocort

I was diagnosed with a relatively mild case of Crohn's in 1996. Over the years, I have largely been treated with Asacol or Pentassa, and used Prednisone during flares. I have been in a relatively long period of flares (flare, OK for a few weeks or months, then another flare etc.).

My doctor wants me to try Entocort for my latest flare. Anyone used this? How does it compare to Prednisone?

I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

I was put on Entocort immediately following my diagnosis. It didn't do much for me. One of my strictures was almost right at the midway point of my small bowel, an area not targeted by Entocort since it is designed to release mainly in the terminal ileum. After a month on Entocort with no improvement, I was placed on prednisone and the change was like night to day. I was very lucky to experience no ill side effects from prednisone. Ultimately I was placed on Remicade and it has been working quite well for me.

I took Entocort for 2 years and went off for a year. I had horrible reactions to Remicade.......docs took me off all meds except for Pentasa. Now they found a stricture and I will be going back on Entocort.....I guess it helped back then. I had trouble going off after using it for so long, I had withdrawals......but I can't take Prednisone, that's like taking crack for me! None of those effects with Entorocort, the steroid works just on the intestines.
