hey, i was just wondering what kind of mouth sores are associated with crohn's? because quite often i get sores on my upper and lower lip and the cheeks. They don't look like ulcers but some start out as like a little circle of white skin and then the skin just peels off and leaves behind some red marks that then clear up pretty quickly. And some others just appears as shallow red marks or like little dark red blood vessels? also does anyone else get lower ribcage tenderness? i'm still trying to figure all this out! and do you know if unexplained bruises on the shins have anything to do with anything?

i have been suffering from mouth sores for a long time (btw, the medical name is Aphthous ulcer, or just aphthougs, if i interests you)
i looked around the internet and found out that some tooth pastes have a foaming agent called sodium lauryl sulfate
that could be a cuase.
i swiched my tooth paste to one without that foaming agent, and the dissapeard
they also apera due to a lack of some vitimans
so maybe try aking vitamins and swaping the paste
might help you out
the paste is what hellped me

Hi Kiki . . . I get pain under either side of the ribs. Feels like it is more "inside" like intestines or an organ . . .not the ribs themselves or muscle. I have no idea what it is . . . but seems to happen frequently after eating. I try pressing in those areas . . . but there isn't any tenderness. I'll be watching to see other member's comments about that. The vitamin that sometimes helps with mouth sores is Folic Acid. Some meds actually deplete that one (Methatrexate). . . . and I think our disease depletes it too. Anyway . . . some of us seem to benefit from taking Folic Acid. Rob is right about the toothpaste. There is Oasis and Biotine that are both for dry mouth and sensative tissue. The Mouthwash by both companies is really good too . . . it's soothing. Some of the other members can tell you about OTC and RX mouth rinses they use too. But I don't recall the names of them. Make sure you tell your docs that you have this problem, they'll want to follow that too. Blessings!

hey, thanks for your replies! i'm not even sure if these mouth sores are associated with the chron's as they don't seem to look like the typical ulcers that appear on someone who gets those apthous ulcers. it's more just red marks and skin peeling off? i dunno! i still have the bone tenderness on my ribs though, and the other day the joints in my thumb were aching really badly, which i have never had before? it's all a bit confusing! =(

The way you describe those mouth sores is odd...I've never in my life had anything like that before or during CD, you really should get that looked at rather than not, and the sooner the better.'

I get mouth sores a lot; usually inside my lip or by my gums. Sometimes even on the back of my tongue and leading down my throat. Right now I have new sores on my tongue, right in the center, big, red dots and they really hurt. My doc says it's a common symptom of Crohn's and I've found research to support that. What really helps is gargling several times a day with mouthwash, or even hydrogen peroxide-don't swallow it! It tastes awful but really disinfects the sores and helps them heal more quickly. As for the ribs, I get that A LOT! Right at the base of the ribs on the rights side. It can be referred pain from your colon. You should talk to your doc to rule anything else out. It seriously feels like there should be bruises on my abs from my ribs because they are so sore! This disease sucks...
