I have my first colonoscopy next wednesday at one. My blood work came back fine but the doctor said that sometimes that happens with chrons.  I am so scared. I have heard some horror stories.  The doctor said that i will be asleep and everything will be fine. But I am still scared silly. Anyone tell me what i can expect.

I may be a weirdo...but I love having colonoscopys.  The prep sucks, but its really not that big of a deal.  But I feel so good when my body is like completely free of wastes.

Ditto with Kasper on the drugs, Im loopy all day afterwards lol.

Basically you drink this nasty stuff, or maybe your doctor is giving you the pills, but your going to crap your brains out until its like just water coming out, then when you go in they give you an IV, pump you full of drugs to make you all sleepy, then you wake up like nothing ever happened. Thats how mine go at least.

Good luck Pal, I got mine on Thursday. It is the prep that seems the worst. I wouldn't worry about the proceedure as it could give you some good results and put you on a path to remission if found. Also, my bloods came back fine from the hospital but my Gp found inflammation on his, and they where done on the same day. So go figure.

Well one bit of advice I can give you is make sure you have some books or something else to read or do (crossword puzzles) while your in the bathroom you will be in there alot..also get some cream I used diaper rash cream ohhh did it help..and as for the day of you will get a nice nap..good luck....

I've been at this a very long time and done more preps than I can count. Pretty much all of the ones on the market and some I made up on my own! If at all possible get your doctor to give you one of the pill preps, Osmo prep or Visicol. You can do a web search and find out about them. You will still have to drink a ton of liquid, but it will be a liquid that you like. You will still end up in the bathroom for an eternity too. The worst part by far is the prep. The actual test is a breeze. You will be knocked out and won't know a thing. If for any reason, you feel anything, just speak up and they will give you more meds and out you go! I am very tolerate of the drugs so it takes more to knock me out, so I always have to ask for more, but it usually isn't a problem.

I have a friend who's toilet is across from his dryer. He used the dryer door like a desk to hold his computer and book and all his assorted stuff, so he never had to get up. The funniest part was him telling about it to the softball team of 25 - 40 year old guys and their wives. That would never have happened when I was first diagnosed 20 years ago! Colonoscopy preps have gone mainstream.

Hi I find once I have been cleaned out it is better as it can be a long process getting cleaned out , and the last 2 ,I was sleeping. I don't remember anything after getting the sleeping meds. Good luck .lol gail

The preparation is the worst part. Get through that and you'll be fine. I remember them telling me I would get sleeping and waking up in the recovery room immediately afterward. You'll be fine :)

You will notice after all is said and done that the prep is worse then the actual procedure. You will be burning a path in the rug on the way to the bathroom. The procedure itself is relatively quick and you will either knocked out or put you in twilight. I didn't feel any discomfort considering the procedure taking place. I've had this procedure done like 3 or 4 times so I'm somewhat familiar with the steps.

I think the funniest thing I've seen or rather heard is when I woke up in the recovery room. There were about a half dozen other people that had similar procedures done. I don't think I've heard that much gas being passed in a long time. It was pretty funny.

You'll do fine....no worries.
