MAG, you are at the same time frame after your surgery that I was when I developed horrible gas. I felt like each fart could fill a balloon! I could have made a balloon boquet every day. I was having numerous trips to the bathroom, mostly because I couldn't trust if it was only going to BE gas. Better safe than sorry and less laundry to do.
I used the maximum stength Gas-X and I took one every 8 hours. When I would try to back off, the gas would come back. Around that time I also decided to use a probiotic and I do not know if that affected positively or negatively with the gas, but I knew it was good for my body. I would say I used the Gas-X for about 5 weeks or so before being able to taper off and be gas-x free. I still have gas, but it is manageable.
I felt the surgery (I had about 6" of my descending colon removed) upset the balance of digestive flora bacteria and it took almost two months for them to organize the revolt fought with gas. The Gas-X kept it under control until my body had a handle on taking care of its' business.
Best of luck,
Heidi
