First Remicade treatment

I had my first Remicade treatment last Tuesday the 11th ... the next one on Tuesday the 25th.  It took so long.  I got to the outpatient clinic at the hospital at 10:00 a.m.  They ordered the medication at 10:10, it arrived at 11:20.  The alarm on the I.V. pole telling that the bag was empty went off at 4:00 P.M.  When my doctor ordered the treatments he said that he'd found that if the Remicade drip was administered slowly, there were fewer side effects. 

I don't know how long it will be before the Remicade begins to help.  I was sick all day today... running back and forth to the bathroom.  I was hoping to see immediate results.  The only results I've seen so far is being very tired the first couple of days after the treatment.

Hi small town, I just had my 7th infusion on Friday and I still have to make sure to keep the two days after open, so I can just stay home and rest, the first treatment was by far for me the worst as far as the couple of days afterwards.  My body felt as if it had been hit by a truck..so now I just know that for at least two days afterwards I will need to watch a movie or read a good book and just rest...best of luck

I'm so glad to hear that someone else felt the way I did.  That Mac truck ran me down too... even my ribs were sore and I had blood spots come up on my hands and arms.  The only reason I'm looking forward to my second treatment is because I've read that it will help.  My doctor told me that he thought a lot of my arthritis problems the past 25 years has been Crohn's and that the Remicade should get rid of a lot of my pain.

Hi, I have been on Remicade for 5 years and real good with it. It takes me 2-3 hours for my infusion. I hope the remicade works well for you.

Welcome Small Town!

I am glad you put up this post.  I am hoping to start Remicade sometime soon, as other medications have not helped me out much.

It sounds like you are wiped out for a couple days following the infusion?  Does it make you tired and/or nauseous?

I also read that it is supposed to help a lot with Crohn's arthritis.  I have this, as well as the stomach issues, fatigue and eye inflammation.  I hope it helps with all of that!

The tiredness after my treatment lasted two days.  I was really wrung out.  I went to work, but my bottom caught up a couple of hours after I got there.  After my treatment on the 25th, I'm going to have all the others on Fridays so that I can have the weekend to re-coup.  My doctor said that most people, by their 3rd treatment would notice a difference in their arthritis pain.  I can hardly wait for that to happen.  There has to be something that will help all the aspects of Crohn's, and I hope this is "it".

Friday's are a great idea...I think I will keep that in mind when I am able to start mine!
