Kids with Crohns

If your daughter has already been through 3 weeks of D, I would be calling a GI. There's a good chance it's just a bacterial infection or food allergy - but general docs, in my experience, are TERRIBLE at diagnosing even the easy stuff when it comes to the digestive system. I would seek out a GI, for your daughters sake, and for your own piece of mind.

CD is familiar with in family DNA but not necessarily hereditary.
My mother was diagnosed with CD in 1973, I was having pains and signs as early as 1976, 4th grade (age 10) but I felt a sharp tear in my lower stomach area as I was in gym class in 7th grade (age 13) doing the standing broad jump. It took seeing 3-4 different Dr. and many test and finally after a year I was diagnosed with CD...who would of thunk...my mom had it the entire time as they where trying to figure out what I had?? Man mom felt guilty back then for having it all that time and not recognizing it, but that was in 1980-81 when CD was less known, now more Dr are aware of CD and some even over react to dealing with CD (I had my issues mostly with Dr in the ER's).
After I was diagnosed my older sister and brother were diagnosed with UC...then in the later part of the 80's my Aunt on my fathers side was diagnosed with CD, so I have it coming from both side of my DNA make up.

Johns Hopkins has done a DNA study on my family for genetic make up to help fight CD.

Just keep a eye out.

I was diagnosed at 34..I am turning 39 now.. My oldest son was DX with CD at 18 & his intestines are backwards in his body but function fine..He is 19 now and away at college at OU..asacol with flagyl/cipro mix work well for him..My other two sons 13 & 17 show signs of bad IBS symptoms.  My daughter shows no signs of anything..Andrew gets tired & nauseated and gets diarrhea and when tested show the patches of inflammation and a high white count..He is 5'7 and weighs around 135 and has never been abe to gain weight..My mom was CD & dad ulcerative colitis which both were diagnosed late.  My father died of an abdominal clot which ruptured..

I would definitely keep an eye on her. If she doesn't improve, her D persists or she has other symptoms, then take her to a GI. My daughter went undiagnosed for well over a yr and I'm sure it was longer but a yr of bad symptoms. Our primary Dr. kept passing it off as other things. Her first visit to a GI, he scheduled her for a colonoscopy and endoscopy and was able to diagnose her. Best wishes for you and your daughter!
