Bowel Re-section: did you guys find it had instant results?

Long time no share, I know!

To catch you all up, I ended up going in for a bowel re-section after having a few partial bowel blockages and my doctor decided that it was time to remove a few bits and pieces.

i didn't have mine laproscopically as the doctor wanted to have a bit of a look and find out how spread it was... Well I ended up having 12 inches out (a large proportion from my small intestine, as well as the join between my sm/lge intestine and a few inches on my large intestine side).

My main question is: did you guys feel instantly better after the surgery? Cause I know I did: it was like a switch had flicked and the pain was completely gone! Wow!

I am still having diarrhea but: quite the opposite to what I used to have!! Icky! But if thats all I have from now on, I am quite happy!

Well, when I recovered from the pain of the third surgery I've had (where they removed 8 inches and did something to my colon) I felt better. I didn't know then I had this disease so I felt better than I had in about a year (I'd been sick a long time before they even did exploratory surgery). I wasn't on maintenance drugs or knew about the Crohns...plus they'd looked and told me a few times that I didn't have it. I felt great for a long time; five years. I would occasionally seem to have the worst heartburn ever and when I had to D, as we all know, it was something I had to do right away or have accidents and I had some minor ones in those five years. Also had a few when I thought I was passing gas. But back then, I felt that they'd removed the problem and I would never have to deal with any intestine issues ever again. Silly me. :-P

I'm so glad you're doing better. You might try some new foods here and there that you couldn't before. Something about the removal of the diseased tissue can make it easier to eat some foods again and harder for others so you'll probably want to start a post-surgery food diary.

Yes, the pain went away but not the D. Make sure you rest up and I hope this is the beginning of a long remission for you.

Everything has been going really so far...just the D has been annoying me, but I figure it's because everything is still settling down in there!

Am still on Pentasa: and probably will be for the rest of my life: but there is not much I can do about that!

I have never had a really strict diet...I tend to have a bit of a reaction to lactose, so I try to avoid it, but I am not paranoid about! If I feel like a thin milkshake with plenty of lactose ;) , I am going to have it! Probably the wrong attitude to have towards this disease, but hey, it makes me happy!!
