How is everyone going with the health and fitness resolutions they made back in January?

Has anyone made any life-improving changes? Formed any new habits? Does anyone need some encouragement to get through the last few weeks of 2008?

Let's cheer each other on as we race (or stumble or stagger) towards the finish line. To quote Mr Obama, "yes, we can!" yeah

Exercise Programme

The older we get the more important it is to incorporate exercise into our daily routine.
This is necessary to maintain cardiovascular health and maintain muscle mass.

Hi Ivy My goal has been to stay out of the hospital this year as the last two Xmas's I was sick. I am doing some cleaning nothing too strenuos so I am not going to go all out with cleaning this year but will do a little project a day until I get things ready. No cooking sweets for me as I will buy what I need.

Also will not be dragging or running threw the woods in deep snow to get the Xmas tree.

I am planning on doing in moderation more ,yesterday I got the mirrors cleaned , and TV and computer not a hard job but looks better .lol gail

My health solutions made back in January would probably make me kick the bucket now hah....

I'm just trying to stay out of the hospital and be well enough to see family. The long car drives are another story...

And then there is my worst fear: flying. Ironically enough my father is a pilot. I've avoided flying as long as possible but my fiance's mother is buying us plane tickets to Missouri for a few days this month so I will be a nervous wreck and you know what that does to the stomach..

Wow, time sure flies when your having fun !!! My New years resolution in 2008 was to never make another new years resolution. It worked out just great this year , because I did not break it. I will use the same one next month. I do have some plans for next year,, if we have no hurricanes , floods, terrorist attacks, wall street big wig buy outs, rate hikes for taxes, insurance, or medical bills. In other words, I hope things are better but truly I think this will happen when they put me in a box and roll it into the crematorium. Yep, I just as soon get the flames started early. Never was one for waiting around for the inevitable.

I quit smoking 3 months ago. I also wanted to lose weight, but thanks to 9 months of pred, I kind of went the opposite direction of that. mad

Congratulations on stopping smoking. That's a huge, brave and really postive step. Good for you!

It's frustrating the way that pred always makes us gain weight. Are you able to exercise at all? I have the feeling that if you're able to exercise and keep healthy while you're on the pred, you might have a better chance of losing the weight once you get off that horrible med.

I think that my biggest health-related achievement this year has been to improve my diet. I eat much, much less sugar than I did last year. I am also exercising more.

Anyone else?

I wanted to stay surgery free this year, but had the one minor op on my face.
Also wanted to stay out of hospital and managed that, so far.
I also wanted to be pred free, but have at least dropped it down further than I have for years.
So my year has been not quite what I expected, but not as bad as it could have been :).

Hi Everyone,

Well, I didn't make any new year's resolutions. However, after seeing myself in the full-sized mirror at JCPenney's while my "thin" daughters tried on summer clothes, I decided to lose my "prednisone" weight. Long story, short: I joined Weight Watchers in April and I am down 30.2 lbs so far, with 1.8 lbs left to go! Not bad, considering it took 2 years and 3 rounds of prednisone to pack that extra weight on. My birthday was November 8 and I was thrilled to be able to use my gift card to buy a skirt in the single digit size! Now to keep it off while I start a brand new (to me) drug: Entocort. rolleyes Wish me luck.

       Successes: No KidneyStones in over a year & a half! OK, not a resolution but something to celebrate!

       Eating better. well moderate success.

       Failures: Nothing major! Did fall of the excercise wagon a bit because of a pair of viruses in October. Legs seem worse now because my Arthritis took advantage. back on course now.

      Oh, and still looking for a love interest. <sigh> The neverending quest..

      Next year: I resolve to forget resolutions & just live life!

Thanks for the positive words Ivy.

I wasn't able to exercise a whole lot this summer because I had a perianal abscess drained in May, and then had some tendon scares with Cipro in Aug/Sept., but I have gotten back on the exercise bandwagon in hopes of losing some of this pred weight!
