surgery over - results scary and sad

The tumor was in the stricture that the colonoscopy couldn't get to. All in all, about 6 to 8 cm. i'm nervously awaiting the results from all the tests they are doing and hoping with all my might that the lymph nodes are cancer free. In the meantime, trying to remain positive and strong for him. This is not at all what he was expecting to wake up to and I want him to focus on recovering from the surgery right now.

Hi How is Justin's recoup coming along? Is he up yet? Let us know how he is doing and he is lucky to have such a caring wife. lol gail

All my hopes and prayers for you to beat this . My wife is still on chemo but she is doing great. All test for cancer markers are good. There are lots of new treatments and you have doctors that know these treatments far more than years ago. Please keep us up to date. We are all pulling for you...

justin is doing great. He has been out of bed to walk around and has even had a few bowel movements (all liquid and a few accidents, but still good news) he was able to eat some cream soup and pudding also. Obviously, he's still in pain by things are really good overall.

He already has a color to his face that I now look back and realize he hasn't had for quite some time. It's clear the cancer was taking it's toll on him and he looks and feels healthier already.

We are still waiting for the big and important test results to come back. I will let you all know. Sniper, it's great to hear your wife is doing well. We are both still in shock but he is able to talk about it and is being very rational and calm. I'm incredibly proud of him. We joke because I have been researching crohns SO much that I could write a book! And now I have to start the research over! I think I'll take a break & leave it to the experts :)

I wish your husband a fast and full recovery.

My grandmother had colon cancer when she was in her 70s. They did not realize it until she became ill due to 100% blockage. That was over ten years ago--it was removed, she underwent Chemo--and she's still OK. There are tools to treat this, even more nowadays, so just try to stay positive and find a good doc. Take care

emrose - Please know that even though Justin's diagnosis has changed, we will still be here to support you as you continue to support him. Once someone joins our Crohn's family, we have a difficult time letting go of them! We are here whenever you need us to be.....

PS: I can't recall, but did they ever do a CT scan of the abdomen when your husband was first be diagnosed with Crohn's? I am curious because I am thinking a CT scan should have spotted the tumor.

Hi It is great that he is up and having good color .Walking too that will be a good help to him to get the system moving. Yah the bowels are moving too so good to hear he is moving things along. Keep us updated when you can and are you getting any rest? lots of love gail

I was able to get some sleep last night, I just stayed in the hospital with him. Thanks for asking gail :) It's strange. I'm only 27 years old and was finally adjusting to the crohns diagnosis... I never imagined colon cancer... Just thought we were way too young.

Ides - I really appreciate that! I'd have a hard time letting this community go after all the info, advice, and support I've recieved here. Oh, and he actually had 3 CT scans! The 3rd one was an extra fancy kind (the name escapes me). He also had 2 biopsies but since it was in the area that was so narrow the scope couldn't reach it. The surgeon said none of the scans showed anything that looked like a tumor... Just inflamation from what they were sure was crohns. just one of those odd cases that you never expect to happen so close to home!

My thoughts and prayers are going out to you hubby. They have wonderful ways of treating this stuff these days prayers to the medical staff too.
