Hi, I'm Sherry and yes I have an Ileostomy due to Chrones, It will be 4 years on Feb 17th that I had this life changing experience! Never felt better, I was on Deaths door just before my surgery and now I have a new lease on life, I HAVE A LIFE!!!!   Looking forward to seeing your posts and reading them maybe I can be of any assistance or maybe someone here could help me?

Hi Sherry and Welcome to Healingwell. I hear so many folks talk about how much better they feel with an ostomy. Hearing so many folks talk about how much better they feel, helps me at least not to fear it should the day ever come should I need one. I'm 40 now and I was diagnosed with having Chrones at the age of 24, I had a couple resections prior to the Ileostomy. Thank you for such a nice welcome I do have to say though at first it is of course very hard to get used to find the right one that fits your stoma can be discouraging let me tell you, I had leaks after leaks etc, I also just wanted to die! to be honest but I left my family after 4 months to deal with it granted it only took me a week, but I left to figure this whole thing out! I DID! Came back and thought well I have it I might as well deal with it !!!!!!!! and I did!!!
But please if you have to have one take the time like I did just to manage things, emotionally and pysically, you "you" just may be the type of person that needs people to be around you all the time saying AH IT"LL BE ALRIGHT!! My family was wonderful about helping me out but in the end it's ME with the bag on my stomach not them! Like I said before had i NOT HAD THIS DONE MY SON WOULD not HAVE A MOM TODAY~! It works for me now just gets in the way sometimes when it fills up, just feels like a water balloon is hanging there, I still hate that, but oh well I have nothing I can do about it!
But I have never felt better I have a wonderful healthy life the ostomy saved my life!!!

Sherry, I hope we'll be hearing more from you! It's good to hear a positive story about having this procedure done and living with. Do you mind if I ask how it changed your diet, exercise routine, etc.? I suppose I'm just really curious as to what it is like in general...I'm really glad to hear it's improved your life so much :) It's a wonderful thing to read!
