Mouth sores, anyone?

Does anyone get mouth sores? I have a canker sore or something that came about today & just wondering what mouth sores that come along with CD look like or feel like... are they in a normal spot, or can they be anywhere? Mine is on the roof of my mouth. Kind of a white thing. Maybe it was just something I ate. I used to get canker sores a lot, but those were always on my inside of my lips, not on the roof of my mouth.

Just curious....

I used to get them a while back, but one of the medications prescribed by my doctor(not sure which) helped things get better. If it's white and begins to spread then you might consider the possibility of thrush or a simple yeast infection. It's not really anything to worry about...it's just irritating. I took diflucan for two or three days to treat it, and it disappeared completely.

That sounds like the sores I get from Crohn's.  Mine have a white center and hurt pretty bad, depending on where they are.  I have had them on my tongue, the inside of my cheeks, the roof of my mouth...they are not fun.  Mine seem to come on at the very start of a flare.  They have not been as bad since I started on Pentasa and I am hoping the Remicade keeps them away. 

When they were really bad, I would put Kanka on them.  It helped but numbs everything else up in the process!  :-)

I couldn't get a really good look as it's on the roof of my mouth, but looks like a sore, similar to canker sores I used to get. It is really sore. Hmmm. I have used stuff for the cankers, sounds like I should do the same thing, numb it & try to ignore it.

Since I started taking Primadophilus Reuteri probiotic I haven't gotten a single mouth sore since and I used to get them terribly, they looked like deep ulcerations in the roof of my mouth, long and wide in some spots.

I used to get them. They went away when I got the wheat out of my diet.

B vitamin supplementation may help; deficiencies of various B vits can cause aphthous ulcers, which is probably how Crohn's causes them.

Ya, I had vitamin B deficiencies but even taking 1200mcg of B12 daily didn't keep the mouth ulcers at bay, it wasn't until I started with the primadophilus.

My son used to get them, but hasn't for awhile now - I think this is because he regularly eats home made yogurt.

When he did get them, we used oil of oregano, sort of like a mouth wash, or put it directly on the mouth sore as soon as he felt it. It seemed to work like magic and heal it, making it go away before it became big and quite painful. I have tried this too, because I get canker sores when I eat sweets... it did the trick.

I get them usually with a flare or when my stomach is generally not feeling well. My GI said it's related to Crohn's. They are painful. For me, gargling with warm salt water helps get rid of them faster.

Well, I have been having problems lately. Wasn't really sure if it's related to GI issues or if it's just a canker.

I will try some of your remedies.

A good mouth solution for Crohn's mouth sores:

1/2 Milk of Magnesia and 1/2 benadryl.  Swish around in mouth-spit out.  Worked great for me.

Huckleberrie I know you were diagnosed with Crohns then undiagnosed. I swear I think you do have Crohns. You keep getting more and more symptoms of the disease all the time. Hope you get this latest one fixed soon.

I have one right now in the roof of my mouth. I'ts about a week old and still very sore. I never thought it was crohn's related but hey as time goes on more and more symptoms appear.

This may be a little off topic, but how can you be diagnosed with Crohn's then undiagnosed? Isn't that like a diabetic getting their blood sugar tested and having it be within normal range for once and having the diabetes diagnosis taken away? Maybe that's a bad analogy, but it really just doesn't make sense to me.

These sores are so painful and to have them NOT know or change the diagnosis has got to be frustrating. No one wants this disease, BUT if you have it, you want to be treated for it. Like Nanners said, I hope this gets solved for you soon!

I have had mouth sores like you are describing for as long as I can remember. My doctor thinks that I have had crohn's for quite a bit longer than I can trace the timeline back.

Remember that crohn's can present itself anywhere in the digestive track from mouth to anus.

I've had canker sores all my life; I've found that frequent rinsing of the mouth with plain old hydrogen peroxide works wonders. It's cheap and painless and actually works..at least for me. I ate a bit too much candy last weekend and ended up with a humongous sore on the inside of my cheek. It hurt like the devil, but luckily only lasted a couple of days.
