I was born into a restaurant family...worked the family business starting at age 7 and then went to the Culinary Institute of American and trained as a chef.
I grew up with a father whose only rule about food was that you had to try everything at least once before you said you wouldn't eat it. So there is hardly any food I won't eat.
Possibly to the harm of my health I have refused to let this DD slow down my love of all things food and drink. The only concession I have made is that I try to eat more natural foods and less processed. Certainly any foods that consistently cause me discomfort come off the list...such as TVP and processed frozen eggs and frozen egg patties (can't eat an Egg McMuffin to save my life)
But...sushi, eel, snake, raw oysters, clams, fresh shrimp raw or cooked, sea urchin, cactus, steak tartare (beef or horse)....dishes with goat, gator, or turtle. It just doesn't matter...i love it all.
My greatest temptation is spicy food....YOU CAN'T MAKE IT HOT ENOUGH!!! I love all kinds of spices...hot curry dishes....mexican or jamacian dishes...doesn't matter...I love them. My fridge at home has about 2 doz hot sauces in it and my spice cabinet houses more kinds of pepper or curry than I can count. There has never really been any specific food or spice (other than the TVP and processed egg products) that I can say positively hurts me or cause distress.
The only real positve thing about this disease and my tatse for foods is that where I once a huge fan of breads and desserts....I can take them or leave them. If I order a dessert or make one...I try one or two bites...and that is it. I enjoy them...I just don't crave them or desire to eat more than a few bites.
