Hi folks.

I feel LDN ( Naltrexone ) has helped my CD. I have not had a flare for the longest peroid since diagnosis in 2005.

The problem. I cannot take Pain killers.....

Which NSAID is the eaisest on your stomach?

Ibprofen?

Advil?

Naproxen?

Im having a miserable time with arthritis......

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

NSAIDs are never to be used in individuals with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (e.g., Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis) due to its tendency to cause gastric bleeding and form ulceration in the gastric lining. Drugs such as Advil should be avoided in persons afflicted with IBD. Pain relievers such as Tylenol (containing acetaminophen) ...are safer medications than ibuprofen for pain relief in IBD.

Gosh, honestly when I take the medications for my pain, I am usually in so much pain AND sick anyways, that I really do NOT notice the difference, side-effect wise, does that make sense? I actually have to take actual pain medications (percocet) when I have such bad pain :( and even those do not really work, but take the edge off. So in otherwards, they really don't make a difference, but we are all so different, sometimes I wish we were all the same.

No, you may not notice the side effects of NSAIDs, but they're happening inside your body--and they're dangerous! Even the rheumatologist I've gone to for my arthritis and rotator cuff injury has told me that, because I have Crohn's, he will absolutely not prescribe any Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc., because of the harm they'll do to my insides. The only OTC pain reliever prescribed for CD is Tylenol--or stronger versions of it, like hydrocodone or Percoset. From everything I've read and everything my doctors have explained, taking an NSAID is a recipe for disaster--whether you feel the effects or not.

I know, it kills me when people with IBD know that NSAIDs are to be avoided but they insist on taking it believing it doesn't affect them in a bad way...you can lead a horse to water...

The lasttime I took a NSAID it caused me to have the worst flare ever. Stay far far away from them, as stated above they are big no no's for us.

I Guess I up the creek then??? Its either stop LDN and take narcotics or Stay on LDN and  Take NASIDS...

Either way MY gut will suffer.

My GI or Primary doc don't like to prescribe painkillers to me and Tylenol doesn't cut it when it comes to my joints (or Crohn's for that matter). Ibprofen (besides painkillers, which I do not have) is the only thing that let's me get an kind of rest some days. I know it's bad for me but what other choice do I have besides being miserable and not able to rest.

I understand how you feel, red but I don't have a good answer!

That's interesting. With my back completely cramped up, pelvic pain, and joint pain, the only OTC meds that seem to affect it is IBprofen. Tylenol won't touch the pain.

Unfortunately I just talked to my Dr's assistant to get some pain meds, and it's unlikely I'll get them as my Dr is out of town until Dec. 29th and since he's never written me a pain Rx before, I probably won't get them. So I'll have to suffer through Christmas

Well my CD was misdiagnosed for years. In that time I had two injuries that caused me to be put on rx NSAIDS (not narcotics just high dose). One time was rx Ibuprofin the other was rx Alleve. The alleve was MUCH worse on my gut than the Ibuprofin. Advil is ibuprofin and naproxin is alleve. If someone put a gun to my head and made me take an nsaid I would choose a coated Advil and only take it on a totally full stomach. I hope you find relief!

Well they landed me in the hospital with a massive GI bleed, I could have died. So I don't touch them, only Tylenol.

Wow I didnt know that pain meds caused damage to our insides.  Just wondering what exactly is NSAIDS?

Non Steriodal Anti Inflammitory Drugs
like advil, alleve, etc they are labeled as such

In Feb of 08' i got paracarditis (sp) and they put me on 800mgs ib 3x's a day for 2 weeks then 500mgs naproxen 3x's a day for 2 weeks. Off two weeks of all of them then back on for 2 weeks. Off a month back on 2 weeks then finally off them all. I had been in not in true remission but where I was content. I only had about 3 bms a day, not water d, minimal stomach pain. I talked to the GI b/c I was concerned of a bad flare. He said the paracarditius trumped Crohn's and I had to take the treatment. I have been battling a flare ever since. I can relate to what you saying about going ahead and taking it tho. I am also dealing with endometriosis in the scar of my c-section (that I had 22 months ago) I took 1 ib today and one naproxen as well b/c of it hurting me. I have surgery on that monday to try for a second time to have it removed. So I def think they are terrible for us but sometimes we have to do it? Best wishes! Tara
