Hi everyone, i've had crohns for about 10 years although its been quiet mild for a few years now, however today i have the most awful what i can only think is rectal pain. The only way i can think to explain it is it feels like it kind of behind the bikini line area and also deep in my bottom so it hurts when i sit or move too sharply and i feel quite nauseaus. When i have needed to go to the toilet today the pain has been excrutiating to the point where i can barely stand and i feel faint. Has anyone else experienced this and is it a common crohns symptom? Could it be muscle spasms or tension in your rectum? If so, try a hot relaxing bath, and hold a warm cloth to your anus while pooping; it will help relax the muscles.

Hi Roni, thanks for the reply, i don't think it's spasms but i did try the hot bath thing earlier today to see if it helped. Without sounding too graphic when i do a BM i feel raw inside which then causes me to tense up so i suppose there could be some tension pain now i think about it but i don't think that is the cause.

I hate to be the pessimistic one, but if this pain continues you should consider getting a scan of some kind (CT or MRI or whatever) because it sounds like it might be an abscess. I truly hope it isn't, but that's the only thing that I can think of that ever hurt so bad in such a consolidated space...

Hi I think you should see a Dr. about it as it could be a number of things going on hemmies .abscess, fissures,inflamation hope you can get some help with this soon and keep in touch . lol gail

I typically have pain or achy feeling in that same area. For a long time I thought it was my bladder. I finally realized that it was my rectal region. But, it's still worth it, if it continues for you or gets worse, to get a CT like patientspiders suggests. I also have a fistula (abscess at first). But, the pain was there for me before that too, so it's not necessarily related. For me it's the inflammation - that area for me is one big ulcer.

I agree with Gachrons I think maybe you should go in and see the doc. It could be a number of things and better safe than sorry right now to get treatment for it asap. Good luck!

hi kelly. I hope for your sake it's not an abscess, but definitely get it checked out, i ignored the pain until it was too late and ended up with an abscess in hospital, one that just wouldnt burst, and then in the end, a fistula.

I have been prescribed a steroid enema for the inflammation down there so maybe if you get in early enough you can prevent anything worse happening.

Thanks for the replies, the pain has eased a little today but i feel really nauseaus and tired. I should go to the dr's but i have very little faith in them as i have been treated quite badly by them, even when i had a resection and strictureplasty but thats another story! I'll see how it goes and then decide. Kelly x
