Dr doesn't know !!??!!

I went to my GI on monday because I have been in alot of abdominal pain lately ( almost every day)  to the point where I can barely stand up some days. He said he doesn't know why I am in pain but he doesn't want to do a colonoscopy, just a CT scan for now. Nothing has ever shown up on my CT scans so I am not sure why he thinks things will start appearing now. He actually asked me what i thought the pain was from !!! Last time I checked i didn't go to med school and speacialize in this. He is really frustrating!! After I told him about the pain he told me to try not to take pain meds for it and  to just " Ride it out".

Sorry this is so long needed to vent!!!!

Vent away Chelsea thats what we are here for, I am sorry your doctor was not helpful. Sometimes CT can show things that the c-scope can't. Sending good wishes that this one will show something. Hugs!!!

Hi The CT can show if there is any narrowing going on in there and size of the bowels. How long before you go for your CT ? What med are you on they can be good sometimes for giving pain in the body when I was on a bunch felt pretty bad at times. My toes curling up were really bothersome at times. lol gail

The Ct scan hasn't been scheduled yet...still waiting to hear when it is. I am on methotrexate

I am scheduled for the CT on wednesday Jan 14, hen I see the Gi on Feb 9, hopefully the figure out what is wrong

He might have asked you not to take the pain med so he can better evaluate the severity, location, and type of pain. When I injured my shoulder my x-rays were real fuzzy and they couldn't tell if I had a break or a muscle pull or tendon - I don't know whatever else is in there. And they were trying to distinguish between rotator cuff and ac joint and all this other crap. So, they wanted me to not use any pain meds for a couple days and record when I felt the pain and its intensity and whether it throbbed or zapped or ached or cut, etc. Between that, me getting way worse at physical therapy, a specialist, and another round of x-rays, they concluded I had a hairline fracture and a slightly seperated ac joint. But it was worth going through a couple days of pain and then one heck of a cortizone shot rather than unnecessary rotator cuff surgery.

Maybe your doctor is just a total jerk and underestimating your pain or maybe he has a scientific reason for having you "ride it out." Hopefully he is hoping it will help him determine what the problem is.

No I don't think it is scientific because he hasn't asked me to moniter anything
