Terminal Ileum Dilation Possible?

Hi all,

I was just wondering, that since I know my ileum is a bit inflammed and narrowed, if dilating it during a regular colonoscopy is possible? I'm not sure if the scope can reach, but I do have less colon now and no ilealcecal valve. I will at my next GI visit, but I thought i'd also as the crowd here. And if anyone has had this, did they experience any success? Did they put off the need for surgery for awhile?

Hi Cam there are some people here who have talked about ballon dilation but not sure as to what area's. Hopefully they will jump in here. lol gail

Hi,

I have had a balloon dilation twice now and my narrowing was also at the resection site being the illium.  It helped relieve my pain and saved me from having another surgery.  I wouldn't hesitate to do it again considering the relief I got from it.

I've had baloon dilation about 4 times before my last surgery and it probably postponed the surgery by about 5 years. I would also do it again, in fact I may have to.

Oh ok, this is good news. So the doctor can perform a balloon dilation during a regular colonoscopy? or is this a different procedure all together? Thanks for the comments so far.

I had it done in november, saved me from surgery. Yes they can do it during a normal colonoscopy but my GI wanted to do it in a hospital due to perferation being a common complication.

I realize it has been a while, but do you remember what it felt like after your balloon dilation of your ileum? I had one and the pain spiked right after the anaesthetic wore off and I'm trying to get some idea of if this is normal and how long it will be until the symptoms improve.
