I've always wondered why there is so many more topics and posts for both the Crohn's and the Ulcerative Colitis forums then the other.  eyes   I don't think that IBD is more common then the other diseases but I seem to know more people with them then the others except for diabetes.  My daughter's neighbor and best friend was just diagnosed with UC and a co-worker of mine also has Crohn's.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Hi I guess because it is the most interesting thing on the menu..a book of infinite problems that just don't go away like me...lol gail

Peter (Admin) says it's because the Crohn's and UC forums are some of the original boards at this site - the other forums were added later.

I think it's also because we find it harder to talk about our symptoms in the real world than, say, diabetics and asthmatics, so we have a greater need for online support.

Add to this that every one here has a different story even if most of us have the same disease, it still differ from person to the other.
every one, especially newly diagnosed people needs to get information form people who has this disease for along time.

Yes, if you ever want a seat on a bus, just start describing various Crohn's manifestations in detail. People will move away very quickly in case you are contagious. You will have your choice of seats! I've even freaked out med students and ER docs when talking about peri-rectal abscesses and fistulae.  I wasn't trying to, but as I was describing what I had I realized they were slowly backing out of my curtained area.  Weaklings!

Actually this question is brought up on occassion....I think it has to do more with the fact that IBD still seems to be more of a taboo subject with talking about poops and stuff compared to the other conditions here at HW where those are not considered taboo to discuss abroad so us IBDers need each other to discuss our particular issues with since we are kinda tabooed against doing it with the general public....apparently it's still inappropriate to talk about poop in public.

I agree with these responses. Though I am redundant in saying so, this place is the only place ouside of my doctor's office that I can openly communicate what's going on with my body. When this DD is brought up to everyday folks, most of the time they don't know what crohn's is, and in some cases folks will involuntarily move away thinking it's some communicable disease.

I lost just about every friend I have! My sister has Crohn's too, and every time I call her just to ask her a question she won't talk to me--it was then that I learned that this disease is different for everyone.

Cutie, I know how that goes with your sister. My daughter is the same way. Ever since she became an adult she hardly wanted to discuss it with me. But now that I've been diagnosed with it too, she is more open. She hasn't been under doctors care since she was 19-20. At least now I can tell her that she is slowly doing damage to her innards but at least not being on a maintenace med. She has weathered several flare-ups since then but still hasn't seen a doctor for it. All I can do is let her know I'm here if she ever needs me.
