How many of you hold full-time jobs?

I'm intersted to find out how many of us work full time jobs outside the home. If not, do you get help financially from some sort of disability plan?  Is it Crohn's that keeps you from being able to work?

I am a kindergarten teacher.  This is my fifth year teaching.  (I am 28) I was diagnosed last January (2008) after being sick for almost 2 years.  I am only on pentasa, although my GI said my crohns was moderate to severe...but I have only had one mini flare since I've been diagnosed.  Knock on wood. tongue

I work full-time. I am basically symptom-free at the moment though, thanks to Colazal.
When I was in the middle of my first flare a few months ago, I was really starting to wonder if I would be able to keep working though. I managed to make it through those difficult months only taking one sick day... thinking back on it, i don't know how i did it!

I am in school full time and was working full time before that. I also work part time now.

i work for the state of california. super cush job compared to what i would be doing if i worked in the private sector and also way easier than school. i knew with crohn's i needed job security and benefits and good health insurance over money, hence my decision to go into the public sector. there is little stress and pressure so i like it in that regard. sure i wont get rich working there, but i do get paid well for what i do and i'll be well taken care of with a pension.

I also work in the public sector-- 35 hour work week. I did full-time before, but will only be doing 50% now to be home w/ my daughter.

I work full time as an accountant for a large company in the private sector. Mostly 35 hour weeks, but about 6 weeks total of 45-55 hour weeks throughout the year. I like the job, they are understanding about the CD, good pay/benefits/pension. The last 9 months during this flare have been tough though.

I'm a full-time student, and I get financial aid based off of my parents'(low low low...)income. Students also get the hope scholarship upon entering and keep it based on gpa. Given that, and having accepted a loan, I get enough overflow to take care of myself without a job, which, by the way, I can't seem to get anyway because they either have physical needs that I cannot fulfill or they are not hiring.
I would very much like to find a job, but it's not going so well at the moment with anyone in that respect I think...

I work full time as a Kindergarten teacher too, Mel05. At first it was very hard because my disease was out of control and you cannot leave your students alone to go to the bathroom at all. So, I had to starve myself all day long just to make it through the day. Things are so much better now that I am on Humira.

i dont work, i used to work full time but have not been able to go since October.
I think it is also psychological i was on steroids and i did not want to be around people while i was looking like a whale :P
It is also hard for me because i am good today but tomorrow i would not be ok so i decided to stop working while i am in a flare.

I am still getting sick pay from my job so there is nothing to worry about.

When I first got sick in the summer of 2006 I was working full time as a nanny. It worked with the problems that I was having because it was easy for me to just hang out with the kids and watch movies or sit in a chair while they played outside. My boss was also very understanding. I worked for this family for almost a year and a half after my diagnosis in October of 2006 until I went to be a full time preschool teacher. I started on Humira right before I started working at the preschool and it helped to keep my symptoms under control so that I could work. I am now back in school full-time to get my teaching credential and I am also a student teacher full time in a Kindergarten class. I feel like my symptoms are under control enough that I don't have to worry about leaving the house anymore, and I thank the Humira for that. I hope to continue on the Humira for as long as possible so that I can start and continue my career as a teacher. I have read the posts of the other teachers on this thread and agree that it is hard to leave a classroom full of students. Good luck to everyone! I also think it helps to have an extremely understanding boss. I was always able to discuss my Crohn's with my bosses and they have always been very understanding of my needs.

I work in accounting for the north american division of an international company. I've worked full time since I went back to work when my kids were both in school. Lucky I have sick days to use as needed -- other wise no problems.

I work fulltime. I ws DX 2001 and for the most part I have perfect attendance. I missed a week in 2001 being DX and I missed a day in 2007 for a overnight hospital stay. I will be missing a great deal of time for my upcoming surgery.
Other than that my employer is very understanding of my condition.

I have been teaching full time for the last 19 years. I absolutely love my job. My biggest worry isn't having to leave the kids to run to the bathroom, but that i generally just feel unwell. Before I leave to go home I make sure I have extensive lesson plans in case I have to call in a substitute teacher. When my doctor tells me to take time off work....... I cry and feel like such a failure. He just doesn't understand.

I have worked full time since I was 14....52 now.  DX'd about 8 or 9 years now....had problems for a lot longer.

I work about 60 hours a week and travel a lot.  Last year was just over 100 flights and 150,000 miles.

Sometimes the DD intereferes and may even win the day....but most of the time like so many others on here I just have to push through.

I have worked fulltime with my current employer for 32 years.  While being employed here, I have had Crohn's surgery 3 times, ear surgery, c-section, hand surgery, a severe bout of arthritis in my hands, and have missed a lot of time because of flares.  Needless to say they have been very understanding. 

They are a non-profit behavioral health center.  The pay could be better, but the benefits are good.  This is the main reason I stay.  I think it would have been difficult for me to work in the public sector.

I have worked at the same company for almost 19 years. I have missed alot of time due to my Crohns, but have been blessed with supportive bosses. And now there is another person who has Crohns who works here too. Although we are both in remission right now.

I work full time in the voluntary sector. I've been in my current job for two years, but in my previous two jobs was off each job for 4-6 weeks (due to initial diagnosis and then surgery). Thankfully my managers have always been very understanding and I can work from home occasionally if I need to.

I work in the Public School System in a middle school cafeteria. They are very understanding, I missed most of last school year being in and out of the hospital and I still have a job.

I work full time (and more) as an attorney. I love my job, but during flares, the hours and stress can be challenging to deal with.

I work more than FT... thanks to Humira, I am mostly symptom free but everyone is very supportive of me and my issues. When in the hospital, I did work from there as I could but others just picked up the slack and got things done in my absence.
