Honoring my Crohn's

I decided I want a tattoo to hornor my Crohn's. Somebody told me it is a crazy idea. Why honor that horrible disease? Because it is a part of me. I want to get 2 Gothic butterfly tattoos on my stomach I love butterflies because they are beautiful and reminds me of freedom. I want them to be Gothic style to represent the ugly of Crohn's. When I  get to that "happy place" in my life I will add 2 more butterflies to represent my good fortune. I don't think it crazy, do you? Would you honor your Crohn's?

Hi I already have a scar to honour my crohn's and don't think I'd choose the belly area perhaps a different area if I were getting tattoes. lol gail

Why the heck not...go for it. When I reached my goal on weight watchers I got a tattoo for that.  And when I was in remission from crohns I got a tattoo of a phoenix. Of course Im not in remission anymore, but I dont regret the tattoo because it reminds me of the happiest time in my life, and encourages me to do everything I can to get back to that place.  Ive seen tons of people with pink breast cancer ribbons tattooed on them, some were people who have lost family or friends to cancer, and some were people with cancer, so why not something to represent crohns?  I have many scars from this disease, but putting something on your body that is beautiful representing it is better then looking at the scars, to me at least.

MsRockon, you do realise there could be important negative diagnostic side effects to this idea ?
You go see any 2nd rate GI when you have a bad gut, and he'll take one look and say dismissively, "Don't worry, it's just nervous stress, you've clearly got butterflies in your stomach "...
Seriously though, I know what you are up to. You just fancy some acupuncture, don't you ?!

The only thing that I would be hesitant about is about the placement. I got a small tat on my lower abdomen when I was 18, before I had Crohn's. The vibration of the needle gave me D! I wouldn't even think about getting one near my intestines now that I have CD :P I had actually thought about getting some kind of tat for the Crohn's too though. I don't really know why, I guess for the same reason as you. Not so much to honor it but just because it has become such a big part of my life. I really like your idea of having the Gothic butterflies and then getting pretty ones later :D GL with it!!

I'm back after a few days, I was forced to go outside to get  fresh air  Maybe next time I just open up a window (Crazy weather. Hot cold Hot cold). At times I forget what is night or day because I only see blue(I have blue curtains) My sister said I seceretly want to freak out the doctor(not true). He would say . I never thought of placing it on my foot.That would be better because I always in flip flops or mules, even in winter. My family told me to get the Chinese symbols for pain and dirrahea on my stomach(I seen the symbols in the tattoo artist's book). Now Hedi that was funny. Every few months I have a new g.i. doc. It is hard to established doctor-patient realtionship when they keep switching. My first doctor lasted 4 years, I had to leave because I made 18. Snohare,I believe the doctor I have now would say that and then he would laugh. My acupunture comes from when they can't find my veins (the record is 5 sticks; 2 on left arm, 3 on right arm). My second to last Remicade appointment they finally found a vein in my thumb). Remicade next week, hoping no more than 3 sticks. If I can only do something about them stealing my blood.
