Hi Peeps.
Well its all over and done now, I'm at home recovering after spending 6 nights in hospital. The strictureplasty operation that the surgeon thought he was going to perform turned out to be more involved with a illeo cecal resection procedure.
The operation was performed open in which I have a scar of roughly 6 inches long. I was first down for surgery at 8.30 in the morning to which I finally came round about 12ish. I had pain pump strapped to one hand, oxygen pipe attached to nose and catheter. I could press the pain pump (morphine) every 3 mins which kept me fairly comfortable - only the first night I had some shooting pains in the surgery area.
On wakening on day 2 I was told to see if I could sit up and stand, swivel onto a chair next to my bed. I thought the nurses were kidding at first because I couldn't even lift one foot of the bed 1 inch let alone sit up!! I quickly reminded them that I only had surgery the morning before but I was told it will only get harder as the days progressed. No Joking, I used every single muscle and strengh I had left and finally managed to sit upright. Then I came over all giddy and hot and had to lay down for the remainder of the day. In the evening felt fairly good, chatting to other patients on my ward.
On day 3 I was eating soft food and drinking tea, coffee. In the evening I started to get hipcups which lasted ages followed by bouts of indegestion which felt uncomfortable on my scar like I was going to rip the stitching apart. Called the Doctor which he told me it should pass with time.
Day 4 started to hear and could feel that my bowel were wakening. Day 5 we had motion , all diarrhea but at least I was working.
Then on my last day I was allowed to go home. All over!!
Its been 10 days now and all is going well, I'm walking well and bowel movements are just about getting alittle more formed. The only strange thing I can say is now im dealing with indigestion for some reason, has anybody experianced the same after an operation??
So to some it up Wolfie and others. You will be fine. Good luck to all.
And to this forum I would like to say a massive thank you. Your all a great bunch.
