Hi.  For those that have had a resection, I'm wondering where your incision was made.  Thanks!

Right hemi-coloctomy April 2001... starts a couple of inches above my belly bottom, curves around the left of it, then continues for another couple of inches underneath it.. stitches and 22 staples.

Straight down the middle. It starts right above the bellybutton and goes down to a few inches above my vajayjay. I had open resections both times. I am wondering what kind of scars those who have it done laproscopically are like.

So they cut right through the belly button?

Hi Rider Fan,

I had a right hemi-colectomy in 1987 and my scar is 2 inches above and around my belly button (right side) and straight down.  They used the same site for resections in '97 and '02.  Are you having surgery?  Where is your crohn's located?

Hi Julia. I might be (see my thread "Decision - Humira or surgery - Please help". It's on page 3 right now.

GI seems to think it's a 'small' (not sure how small) area of the ilium and descending colon (about 6cm).

Would you be willing to post there and give me your thougts?

Which one? Haha.  My first one is directly below my bellybutton and its about 5-6 inches long.  The second one is directly above my bellybutton and about 4 inches long. Im thinking of getting a tummy tuck, then my scars and chub would be gone wink

I had an laproscopic ileocecectomy a few years ago. The surgeon did all the work through a few small incisions but then needed to make a larger one to get the "guts" out. My incision is just under 3 inches long starting below my belly button. It's actually a really nice scar, you can barely see it. Were I of belly baring age, this scar wouldn't stop me.

Now, the ten other small scars from my other surgeries give my belly far too much character to show to just anyone.

mine is pretty much the length of Nanners, but because it was used more than once, I no longer have a belly button...no biggie for me, but some have a problem if they lose it.

Mine is about 5 inches above the belly buttom and right down the middle to my pelvic bone. They cut through my belly button which is why I now have two. The man made one and my original belly button. It is very odd looking. I also now have a hernia above my belly button which is very annoying.

I had a resection in '97, removed 10 inches of small intestine, 4 inches of large intestine and stitched up the hole the fistula had created into my bladder. My scar goes half way round my belly button and down to the top of my pubic area (where the hair starts). My belly button also healed with a twist to it, I can barely get a finger tip into it now, but when I was a younger, I could get a lot of finger in there! I always think if I was to get into an accident, and was lying on the table in the ER, they will assume I've had a hysterectomy or c-section, cause the scar is so freakin big! In fact, we named the scar Fabio!

Hi Mine goes about a inch above the belly button too and goes now to above pubic area.. I take that over gut pain though .. lol gail

Hi I had a right hemi-colectomy as well and have 4 laproscopic incisions and another about 3 inches long on my right side, can barely see it.

My emergency resection was done 7-4-02 while on vacation in Mexico. We had rented a new villa in Akumal, 90 miles out of Cancun, I started getting sick the 2nd day there. Was taken to Cancun and had my appendix taken out 5 inch scar on the right only to find out they were fine , then opened me up lower on right side nice 6-7 inch scar. Took out 12 inches of the small bowel. Six weeks prior to all of thr this had my gall bladder taken out... Had more than my fair share of surgeries...Susie

Subtotal colectomy in 2007. Mine starts an inch above my button, curves around the left side, jogs back to the middle, and goes another 3 inches down. about 5 inches total. Mine started laproscopically, and ended open, so I also have 1 inch incisions North, South, East and West.

3 inches south of the BB and about 4 inches north....I have always had an "innie" for bb so the slice went right along the edge of the opening but of course not through the knot itself.

Funny thing is that when I first saw the scar/incision the day after the surgery I thought holy mackerel he cut me stem to stern...it looked about 18 inches long.....but as the thing healed...the swelling when down and time passed it re-sized down to about 7 inches....took about 22 staples and three or four stiches to close it

For us guys it is not so bad.....I am pretty hairy and all of my "happy trail" and stomach ahir pretty much hides the scar.
