I have been reading posts on here for a long time and feel like you all are friends since you understand what it is like to have CD. I have been especially reading the posts on Humira as my doctor suggested it and I was afraid of it but finally decided to try it after reading how some people have been helped with it. Anyhow I took my first 4 shots yesterday (Tues) afternoon and they weren't bad at all. Just hard to get used to giving myself a shot in the stomach.

So far no site reactions. Does this usually happen right away or does it take a few days?

Was able to sleep for a few hours then have been up rest of the night with a little bit of headache and just can't sleep.

So anyhow just wanted to finally post on here. I had this feeling that I wanted my friends to know I have survived my first Humira shots and you all were the first ones I thought of. No one else would understand the fear of the unknown but you guys.

I have had Crohns for 36 years. Looking forward to talking to others who have been there.

IF I get a reaction at the site of the injection it's usually within a half hour. But I haven't had any real skin reactions since the first two months and I've been on Humira for almost 5 months now. I found that when I did it in my leg, it hurt more and more chance of a big red welt, so I've only been doing it in my stomach.

Hi HSMom! I sure hope it brings you relief!! I wish I wasn't allergic to it. It is relatively easy to take and so many have been helped by it. I hope it does for you too!

Shots in your stomach???!

WELCOME! I have been on Humira for about 6 months now and I love it. I did feel some improvement right away but it was not as good as I feel now. At first it seemed it was wearing off near the shot but now I don't get that anymore. I would give it some time before you really feel results. I also rotate the shots like someone here said. I do a clockwise rotation, with each leg and each side of my stomach. I ice the area till I am numb and leave the shot out to warm up. sometimes it hurts and others I barely feel it. I think sometimes I hit a nerve or a tiny blood vessel when it hurts. I prefer the shot over the other pills I was taking so I don't mind the pain. I didn't ice before the shots but after I had been home a while one of the sites was getting a little raised up so iced it for a while and it went back down. This morn I just have a tiny bruise there and can see a faint little bruise at one other site but the other two are almost invisible now. Was so worried that the site reactions would be worse but guess everyone has a different reaction to it. Just as everything else about this disease differs from person to person.

I have crohn's, arthritis, fibromyalgia, a RVF--just to name a few of the things I deal with.

So I will let you know when I feel some improvement. I just finished 5 IV iron treatments and a month ago had two units of blood as my hemoglobin was down to 5 something and my hematacrit was 15 something. Thought it was my heart as was having lots of chest pain and trouble breathing but found out I was just severly anemic. So feeling lots better already now that I am making red blood cells again.

good luck in your shot, actually I was about to take Humira, but the fade happen, I will not take it b/c I'm going to have a surgery soon. which means I might not need it any more.

but i was reading about it. Some people do very good taking it,i hope you are among them

hsmom, definitely ice before you will notice a difference. I have bruises sometimes but they are not too bad. I seem to be getting more used to it because it seems to bun less each time I give the shot. good luck! Karen

Took my second set of shots tonight. so far so good. I could tell last few days that it seemed the first ones were wearing off. So was looking forward to taking these tonight to see if it helped. Now just hope I can sleep tonight. Hope Humira can help with this roller coaster of a life with Crohns.

I have been on Humira for over a year. At first I didn't have site reactions, but gradually the redness and itching got worse. I started taking Benadryl 30 minutes before each shot, and it helped a lot. Also, I found that calamine lotion (like Caladryl or the generic store brand) helps when it itches much more than any other anti-itch cream. I only give myself the shot in the stomach though, because I found that it hurts a lot more in my legs. Like the others I rotate where I give the shot.

I hope it really helps you, as it's helped a lot of us here!
