Moonface Vent

so I thought I was doing pretty good with the prednisone side effects...other than my wife telling me i turn into the biggest a-hole at times.

today for whatever reason my &^%$%^^ face puffed up like a balloon.  man i'm upset.  gotta stay tough though right???

I remember when my cheeks puffed up so much I felt like they were in my line of sight! I miss the good things from prednisone though, like a good appetite and lots of energy.

yeah spookhurst i know what your talking about !!! I see my cheeks ... its very sad to me :( but im comin off that crap so its all good !!

Yeah, I currently have been rockin' the moonface too. I'm not too happy about it, I also look like a stuffed sausage. I was hoping to get off this evil Pred next week but I got sick for a couple days after I tapered to 15mg and then when I tapered to 10mg I had LOTS of blood in my stool. Really freaked me out. I'm feeling really depressed about it today, I'm so sick of having this horrible illness. Oh well, sorry for the vent. nancerini

Once when I was in the hospital, they had an IV in my hand. It came out of the vein, and when I woke up I had this huge gargantua hand. There were just little divots where my knuckles should have been. I now know what my hands would look like if I weighed 500 pounds !

But back to prednisone, chipmunk cheeks do look fabulous in photographs .

Even though I started at 40mg and am now down to 15mg, my face just now decided to "pop"... literally like after today's evening dose... my eyes are so puffy and I feel like a big balloon head... I'm supposed to be off of this in a few more weeks, hopefully the chipmunk cheeks will go away soon after..

I am on testosterone replacement and am newly diagnosed with CD or UC, waiting on IBDS7 for final determination.

I already have somewhat of a moonface from the testosterone, but it is not quite as bad as a prednisone moonface except it is permanent as I will never be off the testosterone replacement.

Please consider yourself lucky if you can take prednisone of another steroid to help because I cannot due to the testosterone replacement which is required for normal muscle and other function.

At this point, I hope some of the other medications prove effective.

Got to love the prednisone eh! I was just starting to lose my "prednisone pounds" from the last round when my Dr. put me back on it... Now I have new prednisone pounds and prednisone acne! Also, my eyelashes are falling out which is freaky... Oh well, I guess it gives me an opportunity to experiment with sassy false eyelashes!

I agree with D-3 of 5 that we should try to remember our good fortunes. The other day at work I was complaining about stomach pain, then a few minutes later I found out one of my co-workers' cancer may have returned. She was crying and is so scared about whether she will live long enough to watch her children grow up. It really made me put this into perspective. As awful as this disease is I am so grateful that I am still able to work (I know not everyone with Crohn's is, so I am truly grateful) and that I expect to live long enough to see the children in my life grow into the wonderful adults they are meant to be.

D-3 of 5 --  I'm on testostrone replacement therapy as well, but haven't been told I can't take pred.  I'm on 5 grams of androgel per day.  Moon face or not, I don't want to be shut off pred when needed.   My first time on pred was wonderful!  I scarfed food like a mad man and loved it. 

DD 18, hates being on prednisone as she always blows up like a balloon. In high school she actually had kids in the cafeteria  throw food at her and call her chipmunk cheeks. Not only did she get moonfaced and gain weight, she also was moody, grew facial hair and had acne. Not at all easy for a teenager.

lol yeah that's the only good thing about the moonface, it fills out your lines abit :D
