I hate acne and now they are everywhere, especially my face and scalp. I tried drug store stuff and they don't work. I know this is from Humira because I rarely get a single pimple in the past. Does anyone know what works??? cry

I've been on Humira for 5 months and I haven't had that side effect. Then again, I didn't get acne from prednisone either, so maybe my body just doesn't react that way. I don't know if it will work for medication-induced acne but Acne-Free at drugstores works for my teenage son.

Bookworm, welcome to Healing Well!. You might want to consider that the skin lesions you think are acne could be other types of skin diseases. A recent article described serious skin reaction from the anti-TNF meds like Humira and Remicade. If your insurance requires a referral to get to a specialist, I would ask to see a dermatologist. Thanks for the replies I got so far. I think what I have is acne, although it's been so long since I had more than one zit/pimple at any given time, I recall this is what acne is like. It's just not normal for anyone to have so many on the scalp, I counted 11 today. And also I have many on my back. I'm just feeling really frustrasted and ugly. There are a few on my forehead that has been there for a while and healed and I can see more coming, some are whiteheads and most of the lesions seem like papules (small red bumps) and they hurt like a ***** (excuse me) when I tried to pop them. I'm almost 30years old and now has to deal with this. I want to know if anyone has had this problem with Humira and dealt with it, if so, please give me your experience and advice. Because you have them in your scalp - this is not typical acne. Please consider seeing your doctor about this.

This was posted by someone having similar problems: "I had a dermatologist look at it. He told me it was acne and rheumatoid nodules. I got a second opinion. The 2nd dermatologist biopsied the bumps on my knuckles. Ends up that the rash and bumps are both from Humira."

My face did break out more when I first started Humira, but my skin is super sensitive. It went away gradually as I kept taking the Humira. Didn't have any breakouts anywhere else though.

Hope it gets better or you find a solution soon!

It might be rosacea, I had never had it before I started Humira then it popped up on my face. Now I get it when I'm on a hardcore immunosuppressive med. Remicade did it too. Antibiotics are often prescribed for rosacea.

I started Humira 2mnths ago & I started getting these bumps on my chest, neck & have that are like acne but I've never had acne before.  The are hard like they are clogged but not red i'm dark complective and it looks horable.  I never had anything like this until taking the Humira what can I do to get ride of them have you found out yet?

I also got several acne like bumps or sores on my scalp while on Humira. It sounds similar to what you have, at one time I had more than a dozen on my scalp and they hurt more than regular acne. They seemed more like sores than acne to me, but I didn't get them on my face at all, really just my scalp and my legs. The only thing that stopped it was when I stopped the Humira. I stopped the Humira though because it wasn't working for my Crohn's, if the Humira had been working for my Crohn's I probably would have gone to a Derm to see what could be done.

My GI never mentioned skin problems and I know they aren't in the Humira insert but it sure seems like there have been a few discussions on here and a lot of folks have had skin problems that have taken Humira for Crohn's or RA.

It could very well be from the Humira- tell your Dr about it and see what they say. I personally haven't had any skin problems with Humira but I know it's a possible side effect.

I am having the same problem from the Cimzia which is very similiar to Humira. I am going to a dermotologist on Friday for it. I will let you know what they suggest!

Son was on entecort and he became plastered in acne(face,chest,back,legs) Once he weaned off it his legs and back cleared but face especially was going from bad to worse. 3 1/2 weeks ago he was put onto zineryt (lotion to be applied twice day) and there is quite some improvement already (despite being told it could take 12 weeks before improvement was seen) The redness/inflammation/pustules has greatly gone down although bizzarely one side of his face is 75% clear and the other about 40%(?)

I believe it can also come in tablet form, but they didn't want to go this way initially with the other medication he was on.

thanks for all the sugg it has improved alot since i havent been in the sun but if i get sun it seems to come back in full form. my doc really doesnt care what I have to say he just wants me to take it ugh This is his last yr in practice so hopefully who ever replaces him will listen to me my reg doc does not want me to take this med.

I get cystic acne (the under the skin horrible bumps that never surface and hurt really bad). I was on birth control and it helped tons and I didn't get them as often. After having the clots go to my lungs, I had to stop birth control and my face has broken out monthly again. I'm 32 and my face breaks out just as bad as when I was a teen. I didn't think it was related to Humira, but maybe it is, and the birth control just helped it not be so bad.

I'm thinking about going to a dermatologist, but if they prescribe anything, I'll have to think about it because my insurance is running out at the end of November and I don't know what coverage I can get after that.

I have also devloped sever cystic acne on my face and neck. I never had it before and i developed it two months after starting humira. I seen a dermatologist who conducted no tests except looking at my face. He said it was cystic acne.
I am convinced it is from humira.
After two months on anti biotics and creams it still has not gone away. i am going to mention it to the GI when i am there in march.
i also have a sore throat and swollen glands. My general doctor cannot find anything wrong.
Am strongly considering coming off humira even though it is working wonders for my crohns. smhair

Humira actually helped my acne. If you are having bumps you might be experiencing Hives/rash.

I have been in Humira since September and have developed pimple like bumps on the side of my face between my eyes and scalp, on both sides. I have also developed back acne where I have much larger pimple like bumps that are driving me insane! The Humira isn't really helping after almost 6 months. I am in between jobs and have no health insurance so I won't be taking it at least for that time so I am interested to see if these bumps go away and if I feel any better or worse after not taking it. I can't afford over $3,000 for a months supply. Thinking I may go on Remicaid infusions next and see how that works.

I thought I was nuts w thinking these bumps on my face and back were happening from the Humira. Glad to know I'm not alone. 35 and getting acne is not what I think of as fun!!
