Hello,

    For the past three week's I have been haveing diareah  and horrible pains in my stomach. At first I figured I would wait it out it was probbly just gas. Finally I couldnt stand it and my husband took me to emergency room. They told me I have a bowel blockage and to go a week on a clear liquid diet and it should go away, if not come back for more tests. It didnt go away and I have bad pain, I went back and they told me that there is still ablockage and I needed to see a gastro. I made an apointment but they cannot take me until April. Could this be Crohn's? My mom has it so im worried I have seen what she goes threw and I dont want it! I just had brain sugery two years ago for a brain tumor, what now?

The only time I have heard of folks having blockages is with either Crohns or diverticulitis.  I can't believe that with a blockage like that, that they can't get you in sooner.  I would go see your family doc in the meantime and see if they can't help you to get in sooner.  Obstructions are nothing to mess with, you could perforate and have some serious problems.  If you get that horrid pain again, I would go back to the ER, don't let it go.

I can't believe with a blockage and no diagnosis that the ER sent you home twice! You should definitely try to get in to see your GP and see if they can work some magic to get you in to see a GI sooner. Also, if things get worse, or even continue, you should go back to the ER. If your insurance allows you to, you might want to go to a different hospital. Most times, if you are admitted to the hospital you can get the testing done sooner and then you can get treatment started sooner. Are you passing anything? Is it a full blockage or partial? Are you doing clear liquids only? Are you able to keep anything down? You need to be careful that you don't get dehydrated. Please keep up posted. Unfortunately, if your Mom has CD you are at an increased risk for CD or UC and therefore the ER doctor should have taken your blockage more seriously. Have you had trouble before? or is this the first time you have had any trouble?

Thank you so much for replying to me! Its odd my pain comes and goes, for the last three weeks it would be i have pain for a few days, then it would go away. This last week it has been I may have pain for a few hours it goes away and then comes back. I was haveing bad diareah , however today I seem to be constipated. I am doing the clear liquid diet, its hard though im a teacher and running around all day I get tired and really would like to eat something! Could that be why im costipated not enough in my system? They told me to do the brat diet once I stop diareah, however the thought of eating is not fun. I have tried to get into my GP and they cannot see me for a week, I would love to go to another hopital but we really only have one.
My husband thinks this is a on going thing, he told me I have complanied about going to the bathroom for a few years, I could not go then eat something and it would go straight threw me. Also 5 months ago I thought I had food posioning, then I had a stomach bug and now this.
I dont want Chron's I am very scared I know what my mom has gone threw! I am not thirty yet and want to have a baby, im just praying that its not it. Also that this burning in my stomach will go away!

My Mom had CD, and I self diagnosed at 13, so I really do understand where you are coming from. I wasn't officially diagnosed until I was 23. BUT, please realize that IF it is CD you can live a very good life. I have 2 daughters, 21 and 18, have been married for 24 years, have always worked, traveled, been very involved in all kinds of activities from PTO to book clubs and basically never let CD stopped me from doing anything. Then again, this might NOT be CD, so you may just be worrying yourself needlessly.

My concern for you is that you may have a partial blockage that might become a full blockage. Until you can get in to a doctor you need to be very careful about what you eat. Keep to clear liquids or what is called full liquids or very soft food (things like custards, puddings, mashed potato, plain white fish, baked chicken breast, eggs, white bread). Eat small amounts at a time, see how you do and then try a bit more. If you get very bloated, stop passing gas or stool, the pain gets unbearable, you start vomiting - go back to the ER! You can try some of the nutritional drinks like Ensure or Boost. Or even Carnation Instant Breakfast. Anything to try to keep your calorie intake up a bit. If you go to far down nutritionally it makes it harder for your body to heal itself.

The last thing is that this board is full of wonderful people who have great advice, but it isn't very active on the weekends. So please be patient. If you don't get many responses, please feel free to bump your post up to the top every so often so it doesn't fall to the second page. You will get more people reading it come the first of the week.

Hi When I had my blockages they admitted me and did testing when I was in the hospital.Usually they put a person on prednisone ..The pain can come and go some as it did with my second one and I did get pretty weak.. I would put a call in to your GP to get some help ...as for eating maybe something like jello or puddings .creamed soups are good too.. lol gail

I have seen times when my mom has just said oh no, and went to the bathroom on the floor becue she could not move. We were at the mall once and just out of no were she puked. She has been in the hospital many times, she has never had sugery becuse she said the doctor said that it was a bad thing to do, it just makes you worse. I dont know I just feel so sorry for my mom and dont want that to happen to me. Sorry to complane

Hi If we had the choice to make none of us would have crohn's. As for operations it depends alot on where it's at and how much stricture is there. Not everyone has it bad some have mild,moderate,or severe.. Hope you don't have it but it is better knowing then not as it is something that cain't be ignored. Glad to see you have found this place it is a big help in many ways and has helped me deal with my problems much better ,being alone and dealing with this disease would be bad... hope your Mom finds something that will help her. lol gail
