What is it?

I caught a intestinal virus and been sick for almost 2 weeks now.  I can't tell if it is the crohn's flaring up, a bladder infection or a bowel infection?   I have some backpain with it and abdominal discomfort.   It's different this time as I am getting totally exhausted with the runs and keep getting body chills.  The doctor is almost positive that I have a bladder infection and gave me ciprofloxacin but it is causing me excessive watery diarrhea and is exhausting me so I quit taking it.  . 

I'm not convinced it's a bladder infection and think something is going on with my bowel.  Test results should come back this week to show if it is a UTI.

My question is there any difference in symptoms between a bowel infection vs the inflammation of crohn's disease or do they both feel basically the same.  I well know what it feels like to have inflammation of the bowel but the chills, don't know if I've ever had them so bad?

Well if it makes you feel any better, I have often had chills when my pain is at its worst. I'd wait for the test results, but it could be something bowel related. I've never had chills with a bladder infection, but I've only had 2 in my life.

If I'm flaring really bad, as it sounds like you may be, I can get very bad chills without any accompanying fever. If anything, my body temp is usually CRAZY low at those times... I've never had a bladder infection, though, so I'm not sure how those symptoms may factor in.

So, it is possible that it is "just a flare" and not an infection. Hope you hear back one way or the other soon...

No, the doctor hasn't tested for Cdiff?  If my UT tests come back normal then it may very well be my bowel causing the problem in which case I will need to contact my GI and testing around here is slow.

I have one week to get better because soon I will be going out of town for a week.  In this state it is doubtful if I will be able to go? 

I forgot to mention that the lab is cultering it, to see if and what kind of bacteria I have.  I think this takes a few days.

 

I'm with Patientspiders, if I am really ill it is more chills I get. I do get fevers sometimes, and they are usually with chills, but the worst chills are definitely related to inflammation in my gut and constant trips to the bathroom. Feeling icy cold is just part and parcel of that for me.

I was recently ill in the night, I had back pain, abdo pain and chills and almost passed out - my wife called my an ambulance and was taken to A&E - They did an X ray and it came back ok but they told me I had a kidney infection.... I was given antibiotics to take for my kidneys but after I finished the 1 week course I felt no better - I went to my GP and he gave me a different antibiotic but it made no difference and made my pain worse so I stopped taking them. I found out that they can affect ASACOL so I was not pleased the stupid new GP gave me them!

Its been 1 week since I stopped taking the antibiotics from my GP - I still feel no better I have back pain abdo pain and now vomiting with it and sleepless nights due to discomfort and pain.

My X Rays showed up nothing so I am unsure if this is a Crohns related incident or not, I don't know what to do!

Advice anyone?

Dorri - The easiest way to tell if it's a bladder infection (at least for me) is if it burns when you pee and if you constantly feel like you need to but you can't get anything out. I would say that it is almost certainly bowel inflammation, as I stated before. Chills may be a new symptom for you, but they are extremely common with flares from what I've heard from others and experienced myself. I would suggest trying to see your G.I. as soon as possible to get it sorted out if you haven't already. Hope you feel better soon!
