Pre-op assessment?

Yikes, 3 hours?! I don't ever remember a pre-op assessment taking that long! For me or my son's surgeries. They just asked us for detailed, very detailed, medical history. You might want to write stuff down ahead of time if you've had a lot of medical things going on over the years. They wanted to know meds, and reactions to anything. They ordered the pre-surgery tests, bloodwork is usually done about 2 weeks before surgery, and they went over what was going to happen in the surgery and answered any questions. I don't think it ever took longer than an hour.

No you are not too late Wolfie. The assessment is April 6th and was hoping you would respond as I know you just went through it.

By assessment do you mean Pre-op physical? If so all I had to do was go and see my primary doctor and he looked me over,listened to my lungs and heart and asked questions about my medical history which included past surgeries,health history for me and my immediate family (heart attacks,diabetes,stokes etc) After that I went to have bloodwork and x-rays and I was done. It all took about 1 hour at most.
As for my last surgery meeting that was also a breeze. My surgeon just asked me how I was doing and if I was off Prednisone and if I had any concerns. That was it.

I did see my surgeon before surgery in the pre-op and she just confimed what she was going to do and said that everything was going to be all right.After she left the anesthesiologist came in and introduced himself and asked if I was allergic to anything and then he explained what he was going to do. The nurse came in and said that she was going to give me something to relax, After that I was calm as a cucumber and didn't care what they did. All in all it wasn't that bad. Do not worry about a thing, you will be fine.

P.S It has been a month and 3 days now. I have been back to work for the last two weeks. The first week I took it really easy by not lifting anything and taking it slow. The second week I was lifting 10# and walking and twisting. I just got in from raking the front lawn and I feel great. Lots of energy even from not sleeping much. My wounds are healed and only the scars remain.
All I can say is that the first 2 weeks are hard, not awefull but hard. After that you sometimes forget what you went through.
I'd better stop yaking here it might take you an hour to read all of this.

I did gforget to mention that a nurse called me the day before surgery and asked questions. Also I did have to stop taling all vitamins and asprin,tylenol 5 days before surgery. As for stairs, I did not have a problem with them. I wasn't running up and down them, but they were managable. Just a little bit slower. When your home the hardest part will be trying to get out of your bed, you had that nice hospital bed that you could raise to help get you up and out of bed. Now you have your bed that is flat. It will be difficult the first few times. I even tried the couch and had problems. Your right, the hardest part was waiting all those weeks/months before surgery. Thats all that was going through my mind. One more thing, ask your surgeon when your in pre-op if she could take pictures of what she is doing. Unless it will gross you out. I thought that was very interesting to be able to see what she was doing and what she took out of me.
