Just wondering

I'm just curious if Crohn's can be detected without having a flare up or symptoms at the time of the test?

I only ask because in the past, by the time I got in for my tests and procedures, my symptoms had subsided and gave an inconclusive diagnosis. I have started fresh with a new doc who has lined me up with this specialist. I'm "patiently" awaiting a phone call from the GI's office so I can have my first interview meeting with him and get reassessed for Crohn's.

(The doctor gave me a very low dose of prednisone for a week a few weeks ago which controlled bleeding, pain and swelling of my tummy finally. )

Gosh, often they have a hard enough time DX when a person is totally flaring and showing inflammation, so I'd bet it would be even harder for them to figure anything out when you're not showig any signs...there is a condition referred to as microscopic colitis (aka;collagenous colitis) in where via colonoscopy inflammation cannot be seen so they take biopsies and check it under a microscope to determine microscopic colitis.

It depends on the severity of the inflammation when it comes to scar tissue, if you're quite mild or mild enough they may not detect scar tissue via colonoscopy.

As for the colonoscopy, I had one likely about two years ago and they took biopsies that came back with nothing for results. It was taking a LONG time to get these tests done and even longer for results.

Oh, yeah, it can cause mood swings! Usually I get PMS like on prednisone, but some people get emotional and cry.
