How many of us were diagnosed with crohn's / colitis in childhood

I was 18 when I was diagnosed. The most common age to be diagnosed is to my understanding 15-25 years old.

I self diagnosed at 13. My Mom had CD so I knew what I was looking at, but it took another 10 years to get an official diagnosis.

I was diagnosed at 16.. everyone thought I was anorexic and told me to eat.. or that my abdominal pain was "just gas" and no one would believe me that SOMETHING WAS WRONG... finally someone got the idea to take my non-eating, vomiting self seriously and I was given an upper gi and was immediately diagnosed... and you know what I said? "TOLD YOU SO!"

I was probably sick by the time I was 12, and then I was diagnosed when I was 14. Heh, I was in Jr. High at the time, and I will never forget the time when Mr. Powers called me down to his office to discuss eating disorders, what an argument that was! I can't blame them too much though, I think I was 50 lbs underweight after all... Everyone thought my pain was just growing pains... I wish.

I was diagnosed at 16, but had symptoms by the age of 8 or 10.

I've had it since I was 13, but that was in 1972 and I lived in a small town. Everyone thought it was all in my head. I wasn't diagnosed until I was around 38 and so sick I went to the emergency room. I had flare ups 2 or 3 times per year, so that's maybe 70 or so without treatment. The funny thing was that within 48 hours of being on pred, I was absolutely amazed that I could poke myself in the belly without it hurting. I thought abdominal tenderness was normal!!

I was sick at age 6, but was not dignosed till I was over 30.

I started feeling symptoms at age 7 or 8, and I was diagnosed when I was 9.  Junior high and highschool were rough, not to mention leaving school in 4th grade for a stint in the hospital, as thin as a rail, and then going back all bloated and fat.  I was made fun of, and it was hard.

Hi i was also dignosed when i was 13 years old had it 1 or 2 before but it wasnt something that my hospital every heard about,they put me on nevre pills and told my parents that i was only faking and didnt want to go to school put my mom would hear none of that she took my to a large childrens hospital and found out that day i had crohns and i also had a GI tube put in my belly to feed me for 7 months the only thing i could have was diet 7-up and i was a teen so i wanted junk but i got over that but it took a long time for me to get a proper dignose now it has been 17 long years,my parents were going through a divorce at the same time which i dont think that helped one bite cause your not suppose to be under any stress and that was way to much for a 13 years old kid. I was diagnosed at 16 when I had my parents take my to the doctor because no matter what I did I couldnt gain weight.. Ate a whole lot and excercised and couldnt break 110lbs

Hi Laurylu i have never heard of anyone that young with crohns disease how did they test you that young with a scope or the barum follow through it must have been so hard on you and your parents at the age,does anyone in your family have it or just you. Good luck LauryLu Your Friend Jenn

I was 16 when diagnosed.  I remember being sick for at least 5 years before.

I tried all kinds of diet adjustments.  Nothing worked.  Finally a upper GI was done and voila!.  Lucky me.
