The insurance approved me at no copay thank you who ever is up there looking out for me...lol
Tommorrow is the big day I get my loading dose in the am...

As Mihee posted above, I had to enroll in the protection plan to afford it. Every insurance is different, but I paid $350 for my first month's dose, the protection plan covered I think another 600 beyond that which went towards my deductible. After that first payment, it costs me 5 bucks a month (2 pens), and so worth the money. My skin is finally clear after 3 months of using it, and my psoriatic arthritis felt better nearly immediately after using it (2-3 days after the first dose I noticed tremendous relief). Definitely sign up for the protection plan, they'll find a way for you to afford this. It was a headache, but so worth it in the end.

With my insurance, my copay is $30 a month, regardless of the dose ($30 copay for the Crohn's starter kit of 6 pens, $30 copay for the box with 2 pens).  My GI doctor's nurse recommended signing up for the Humira Protection Plan when we first decided to give Humira a try...I had to wait awhile to get the card, but now I only play $5 a month ($30 copay, $25 of that paid through the protection plan).

I still had to jump through hoops to get it approved through my insurance, though (they kind of had to approve it, since I've been on pretty much everything other than the other TNF-blockers).

On United Healthcare I had to get preauthorization every year and my copay was $40 per month (I take 1 shot a week but copay was the same if I took 2 per month or 4)...the insurance payed near 3500.00 a month. I am now on Medicare part A, B and D and I get additional assistance since my disability check is so small that now I will pay $6.00 a month and the insurance covers the 3500

Ugggh! My pharmacist just called, FINALLY HUMANA (my med part D for Medicare) approved my perscription, after fighting with them for a month about prior authorization, denial, etc. The pharmacist told me my co-pay is $2300! This is for the 28 day starter kit perscription!! I told her that there is NO WAY I can afford that being on SS. She said, that Humira would not accept lower pricing for it, since I am on Medicare, that I would need to have to apply for a grant or something to get the funds to cover this. I have been fighting crones for years, and only jsut this year finally had two colonoscopies to diagnose it. I am sick of fighting with insurance companies to pay for my perscriptions! They sure like having their premiums paid every month, but deny about every medication the doc orders. One med, they made me try first, put me in the hospital! I wish you luck.. MUCH better luck than I have had! (they-ins companies-wonder why people go "postal" and shoot up a place)

My GI's office handled the paperwork for getting me set up with the Humira patient assistance plan- which is amazing. Due to student health insurance, there was only one mail order specialty pharmacy that could fill the prescription (Briova. I absolutely do not recommend using them for anything, unless you're in my shoes and have no other options). On student insurance, with the manufacturer's patient assistance program, my copay was $40/month (for two pens). Once I got onto spouse's insurance with his new job, my copay was $5 (still on the patient assistance program). Also as a headsup with the patient assistance program- you have to wait til you're completely out of refills before your GI can write you a new prescription. This is annoying,but at least my GI's office was used to it, and was helpful.

J Blakely - Does your Humana Part D policy use Right Source Mail order pharmacy? Right Source has their own pharmacy and I am betting mail order would lower your cost a lot. Also, you cannot use Humira Patient Assistance program because they don't extend it to anyone covered by a government type of insurance including Medicare.

I would be better off with our private insurance if our Provincial Government didn't cover it because they require a deductible, over $2000 and since our Private insurance works alongside the government program, they won't cover it either until I pay the deductible, and then they say they will cover it, but at that point who needs them because the province will pay after I meet the deductible. What are these private insurances in place for?

when I called Humana, the lady there was nice to me, but said the 28 day cost for Humira is over $7,000! Now tell me why any medication would cost this much?!??!! My wife had cancer 4 years ago, and NONE of the meds for her treatments were over $7,000!!!! The medication and insurance industries are absolutely disgusting! They ALL need to be thrown in the trash, as far as I am concerned!

When we pay the absorbant insurance rates, they should NOT have the right to deny ANY treatment options a medical doctor perscribes to his patient! this loophole needs to be closed by LAWS!
