I do NOT understand these doctors being so d*mn IRRESPONSIBLE with the use of the camera pill in those there is strong reason to suspect a stricture or narrowing and for those who have had a previous resection!!!!
There is a dissolvable pill the size of the camera pill that can be administered a few days to a week before the camera pill. You have to fast but don't have to do a colonoscopy prep for this dissolvable pill. You swallow it one day and have an abdominal xray 26 hours later. If it hasn't passed out of the small intestine by then it will show on the xray and you are not a candidate for the camera pill. If it does get stuck it dissolves w/in 3 days and no harm done.
I was aware of the camera pill before my gastro. I wanted to do one badly but having had a resection I figured I wasn't the ideal candidate for one. Eventually my gastro came on board w/the idea but I refused due to my previous resection. My gastro was aware of the dissolvable pill before I was. But at the time there was only place in our state doing the PCE (pill camera endoscopy). Eventually our local hospital started doing the PCE and my gastro wanted me to have one but no one yet had used the dissolvable pill in our area and I told her as soon as she got the dissolvable pill for me - and I passed it - I'd do the PCE. It took some time but eventually she got the dissolvable pill for me. I was really excited. And then horribly disappointed as the darn dissolvable pill didn't pass. It was still there 26 hours later when we did the xray. I was so disappointed I almost cried. We've talked about the double balloon endoscopy but that's gone no where yet either. Only one place doing them in our state. And I don't know that I would trust anyone else except my gastro to do even a regular colonoscopy so ....
