Surgery to fix a Fistula

Blah blah blah, Ive told this story a million times haha, but I have this fistula above my bellybutton result of a resection, and then 3 abscess's.  I tried Remi but had an alergic reaction, so I cant take that anymore.  I made an appointment with my GI surgeon for the 14th to ask about surgery to fix it.  Just wondering if anyone else has had surgery to fix a fistula?  Or if it can even be done.  I dont see how this will heal on its own, and Ive been told by my surgeon when I first got it that the chances of it healing on its own are very very small.  At this point in my life, I am trying to get married and have children; this is a huge set back for either of those things to happen.  I cant see being pregnant with a fistula coming through my stomach, that just sounds dangerous, and probably is.  Or getting married and being scared that it will leak through my dress, UGH. But anyways, any stories about other surgeries to repair a fistula? Is it as complex as a resection surgery, with time to heal and hospital stay and all that?

I also have a fistula right now, below my belly button, on my resection scar (that appeared the January, only a couple months after my resection)....I've been taking antibiotics and seen no change...they recommend Remicade or Humira (sometimes one works when you're allergic to the other, I've heard)...but I'm very hesitant about either of those....My town doesn't have GI specialists and For the last year and half my primary physician has been the only surgeon in town, and he said that he wouldn't choose the surgery if there's any way to avoid it (since most likely I'll just keep fistulizing again and don't want to keep cutting bowels away) but it can be done. I've read that if the part of the bowel is inflamed, it would basically have to be a bowel resection (to removed inflamed areas around it), but if not, they may be able to somehow avoid removing bowel and just fix the fistula. I'm actually leaning towards the surgery at this point, just because I've had it for over 4 months now and the drugs (that I'm trying to avoid) are only 40-60% effective anyways, not to mention thousands of dollars per dose....anyways, I think surgery CAN fix a fistula...but haven't gone that route just yet...

If you are allergic to Remicade can you try Cimzia?   I don't know about surgery - that would make my daughter go over the edge.  Unfortunately, hers oozes alot and she can't do anything fun any more.  Just ending a relationship - probably due to her Crohns, but she too will be looking to marry and have kids someday.  Just keep in mind new medicine and procedures are discovered everyday.
