Acid reflux sometimes will do me in, so sugar free candy may be suitable for me, but I can tolerate sweets when I can.

Pretty much learn your tolerance level... sometimes there are things that I HAVE to have, and I'll weigh whether some pain is worth having those things... like are those Oreos really worth it??? Sometimes yes, sometimes no

I stay away from candy most of the time with the rare exception of organic chocolate. Even then it's in very small doses. I just don't think satiating my sweet tooth that way is worth it. There are plenty of other things you can eat to do that without getting sick like yogurt and mashed up fruit with honey or special products in the organic section lacking gluten and *sometimes* sugar e.g. Pamela's
cookies.

Sugar (and there's generally too much of it in store bought
cookies and candies in general) is the culprit in exacerbating IBD symptoms, limting them or quitting them all together will likely have a more positive outcome on symptoms and overall health...lets face it, for most limiting is so hard to do especially when we don't realize the many places that tons of sugar hide out in so for me I just found it easier to avoid it all together. You wouldn't necessarily notice the effects like right after eating sugar having to go to the can, sugar is much sneakier than that it does slow long term damage...I substituted all candy and junky foods with fruits, I'm lucky I can tolerate all fruits so it was actually a pretty easy transition for me when I gave it up...I use stevia instead of table sugar, or I'll use honey.

We're all different, you can probably find something that works for you. I can't tolerate fruit or anything like that but I can eat candy like a maniac. And do! For some reason, eating something gummy like gummy bears make me feel better when my stomach is hurting.

I agree with xraygrrl I can eat candy too without any problems. I don't really eat it alot, but I have a little bit here and there. I can tell you chocolate is pretty much a no-no for me, but the fruity types of candies (i.e. gummybears or Skittles) I do just fine with. As always its an individual thing. Not very many fruits I can eat either.

I eat a LOT (emphasis on a LOT...) of candy. It makes my stomach a bit upset, but nothing unmanageable, so I haven't really cut back on my candy intake or stopped eating it. It's one of those things that I love wayy too much to give up.

hey, I haven't really cut back on candy, but then again, I don't really eat candy all that often.
I can say though that I have been using Truvia instead of sugar or other sugar substitutes and it has made a real difference!

I heard of a study that showed when rats were given a choice between sugar, cocaine, and water, they almost all chose the sugar. Even rats that were addicted to cocaine.
White sugar is sinful, and sometimes...I'm a sinner.

That's funny but it seems the only thing I can eat without getting sick is plain M&Ms. I can drink Dr. Pepper and have M&Ms and not get sick. If I put any other food in my mouth I might as well plan on a long bathroom break!

Yeah, I'm in remission now so I can tolerate much more corn syrup and sugar, but back when I was off medication for a while, I would occasionally get a bag of M&Ms, though it would take me like two days to finish one small little bag, since I had such low tolerance for sugar. Now I can eat a whole bag in one sitting no problem! I'm a chocolate fiend, so small bits of organic chocolate are good for me.

What does cocaine taste like? If it's anything like my meds, it will taste terrible. Water doesn't have much taste. So, yeah, sugar would be the choice. My neighbor's cat liked anti-freeze. It was sweet. It also killed the poor thing.
