Surgery tomorrow: UPDATE

I'm having surgery done to cut out four wisdom teeth tomorrow...the doctors are being extremely cautious because of that fact that I have been on prednisone pretty much for a year and am on humira. I've never had the experience of doctors making that big of a deal, but I imagine that they have to for everyone. It still is a little nerve wracking.

Just wanted some good vibes sent my way. I'm a little worried but still hoping for the best. And hoping that the antibiotics don't make my body go haywire like they did last time. Anyone else have that problem?

When I first saw the surgery post I was, "WHAT"???? I thought you were going to have to have a Crohns surgery. But I think wisdom teeth sounds terrible too. Definetly sending healing thoughts and prayers your way.

As for the antibiotics, be sure to take your Probiotics at least 2 hours after the anti-b's. Good luck tomorrow!

Good luck tomorrow! about the prednisone, after prolonged use of it, your body no longer wants to heal itself, causing infection and all those other complications, thats why they are concerned about it.  I ended up with horrible complications after my resection surgery all linked to my steriod use.  But I'm sure for wisdom teeth the complications are a lot less severe, maybe an abscess or something along those lines. Hopefully all goes well!

I was on humira when I got my wisdom teeth out and I did just fine.

Be super careful with the pain killers they prescribe since they tend to mess with your bowels. My dentist suggested taking 4 ibuprofen instead because he knew I have crohns

Good luck! I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed a few years ago. I didn't have any complications from the crohn's or my meds, but the jaw pain was pretty ugly. You're still young though (I was 30), so your jaw should be "soft" enough to deal with the surgery quite well. When I had my non-impacted wisdom teeth removed at 21 or so, it was a breeze.

I also had some gum surgery last fall while on Humira, and had no problems. Didn't even need antibiotics!

Wishing you all the best. The only problems I have had from prednisone and surgery is that my incision sites tend not to heal as quickly, so be prepared for that. I do hope you don't have a bad time of it and all goes well. Sending you all the good thoughts and good vibes I can muster!!!!

Things went all right today!! They almost screwed up and decided not tot give me the extra steroids because I don't think they got it when I said I had Crohn's and was on prednisone for a long time, but the facial surgeon came to my rescue.

Question though! I have no idea how to put the gauze in my mouth...I am still bleeding several hours later and I think I just made one side worse..it wasn't bleeding so much and when I pulled the gauze out it had fresh blood on it.
Any suggestions or did I just make a big mistake?

Hi, Sorry can't help with the gauze problem i haven't ever had a tooth out (YET!!) but just wanted to say glad all went well for you yesterday i bet your glad thats over with!!!! Bev x

I don't know how to do the gauze but I know it is normal. When I was a corrections officer I had to take 2 inmates to have their wisdom teeth out. On the ride back we had to stop at a gas station cause one was still bleeding bad and had to change her gauze. What a sight we were. Poor thing was handcuffed and shackeled and bleeding from the mouth. Anyway, I know it can bleed flesh blood for hours after. Hope you start feeling better soon.
