Any1 in the UK - just curious

I notice that a lot of people on this forum seem to be from the US, I was just wondering how many of you are in the UK? And where abouts are you.

Hi iam neighbours with the queen!!!live in Buckinghamshire near Windsor. My husband originally comes from up north till he joined the army in 1980 and was posted in Windsor the in-laws are still up there though i love it proper fish and chips YUM YUM Bev X

I live near Wakefield in Yorkshire. This a great website - haven't come across anything like it here. Seems US and Canada so much more clued up and more choice of treatment - unfortunately they have to pay for it unlike us (phew!). will be great to catch up with you all from time to time, and get your experience of dealing with the uk system. i'm new to all this forum stuff but I'm learning all the time.

I'm also about to be the Queen's neighbour. I'm moving to just along the road from Balmoral ! But meantime I am in Aberdeen, which I have been told ranks up there jointly with Tel Aviv as world capital for Crohn's Disease. Around here when you say you have Crohn's, folk don't go, "What's that ?" they say, "Oh yes, I know so-and-so who has that".

Sno and Crohnielass, do you see ERII very often? Are you affected by extra security precautions whenever she comes to stay in your area?

Pretty relaxed around Balmoral, you can bump into them out hillwalking/picnicking - but camo-clad figures supposedly lurk in the foliage and all the buildings on the estate are wired up to alarms, rucsacs are subject to searches.

Back in the bad old days of the IRA, things were a bit more fraught, I believe there were more bush lurkers. Even now there is still a Queen's Guard stationed down the road at Ballater, and you can always tell when royalty is around because there are police patrols running along the road along the river (it's a narrow valley so only one main road) and they stop for nothing, not even a traffic accident.
My father was brought up in the area, literally within sight of Balmoral Castle. Got totally fed up of rural life, wanted to see the world; so joined the army, the local regiment being the Gordon Highlanders. Went down South for basic training, did well, really put himself out and impressed the sergeant major. So upon passing out....they made him part of the Queen's Guard. An offer he couldn't refuse. Guess where they posted him....!
To this day I think he is overcompensating with all his holidays abroad.
I will not tell you of my only meeting with royalty, it is too embarassing.
