What are the signs of a blockage?

I know that many of you have experienced blockages.  Is it intense pain or does it creep up on you?

My first one started slow like a stomach ache and gradually got worse through the day until I couldn't move and was vomiting.
My second one hit me when I stood up after eating dinner and slowly got worse but quicker than the last time and once again vomiting.
Both times I went to the hospital and the major pain and vomiting was better the next day.

Mine start with a stomach ache and then progress to painful contractions around my belly button region and then vomitting. When I can't take it any long I go to the hospital for pain meds where they usually keep me for a 5 days.

I also used to have small blockages that were painful, but not as bad that I could take pain meds for at home and didn't require an ER visit.

My blockages have pain that comes in waves much like labor pains, can't have a bm, no air moves in out in either direction, my stomach is hard and bloated, and then the nausea and vomiting starts. Hope that helps.

I hate this disease. I've been symptom-free (not in remission, but not suffering) for almost a year and I booked a trip for next week out of country and what do you know, my gut feels like cr@p 4 days before I'm due to leave. UGH.

I am getting those spasms/contractions sporadically. Tummy is tender when I push on it. I don't think I have a blockage though. I feel like I have acid all the way up my throat from my naval.

I am trying 4 probiotics per day instead of my usual 1 per day. Fingers crossed that I'm not sick on the plane - that would be the worst!

It's probably the most excruciatingly painful thing I have ever experienced. It was temporary so I didn't have to go to the ER, but I didn't have any pain medication either so it was basically bawling my eyes out for the night and every now and then just barely being able to have anything close to a BM (although it usually just ended in worse cramping and pain). I didn't vomit though...I can't remember whether or not I had any nausea but I'm guessing this was the case as well.

You are one tuff cookie LMills for not going to the hospital. I know when that pain starts I have a few hours before it gets to a "10" and the violent vomiting starts. I tell the wife lets get going to the hospital. I don't know if I could handle an attack at home without the drugs.

I do know that it is the worst pain that I ever experienced...

IminIn have you asked your doctor about something like Prilosec? That might help alot. Many Crohnies have GERD as part of their problems with Crohns. I take 60 mg of Prilosec everyday and it really helps. Good luck!

Tough cookie? More like a moron....I didn't know it was a blockage at the time so I just figured I would stay home for...goodness knows why.
I almost did that with my ectopic pregnancy in which case, I would have died for being so silly...
You guys are really smart for actually going to the hospital.

I saw this after I posted today. I'm wondering about partial obstructions myself. So I've got the stomach ache, but am having frequent bm's. Can a mild obstruction be handled at home? How common are they in the colon?

Cramps like labor pains, nausea, vomiting, but still was able to make BMs.
