inflammation and structure in sigmoid

Hi, Has anyone got any advice?

I have had subtotal colectomy and an illeostomy with a mucus fistula. I was hoping to get linked back up , my small bowel to my sigmoid colon, but had a flexsigmoid test done last week and it is inflammed and strictured, very near the rectum. She said there is nothing that can be done and it would have to be taken out altogether. Can you tell me if there is anything that could be tried first - drugs, strictureplasty? Does anything work?

It just seems they want to take it out too quickly for me.

Hi, many thanks for your reply. I am in the UK, so not sure what the alternative to Remicade is but the consultant said nothing could be done with the drugs or surgery!?. Well I don't want to give what bowel I have left away so easily...

As the stricture is near the rectum I thought maybe they could do something, along with the drugs to calm the inflammation. I just do not want to end up with a permanent stoma. The thing is I had my operation last August, and no one mentioned I had inflammation in my sigmoid, I could have used and tried steroid enemas in the meantime, although having said that giving the sigmoid a rest I thought it may have healed. I did read a post on here about someone who had a stricture near the rectum, but wasn't sure what the outcome was.

I will try and fight my case tomorrow.
